Anne stared into the depths of the water, thinking of everything. Everything also included Gilbert, right? "I thought I'd find you here, Carrots."

Anne had sensed his presence even before hearing his voice, and turned around, saying: "I have been pondering my thoughts lately, and, as always, I cannot make any sense of them."

"So what are you thinking about? Maybe I could help *organize* your thoughts," Gilbert said mischievously.

Anne groaned. "Do I have to answer this one truthfully?"

"Do you recall *me* ever lying to you?" replied Gilbert.

"Fine. You." Anne said dejectedly, blushing slightly.

Gilbert raised his eyebrows. "well, if you are perpetually thinking about me, then will you give me the honor of accompanying me to the bonfire in two days time with me?"

"You know I will, Gil."

"Why thank you, Miss Shirley."

Anne grinned and took Gilbert's hand. "can you believe Diana is getting married in only two weeks time? I will feel so lonely when Fred claims her as his own."

"Well, my Anne-girl, you will still have me," replied Gilbert, looking deeply into her eyes. He took hold of her other hand, but didn't break their eye contact.

"For as long as the Sun and Moon shall endure?" asked Anne softly.

"Yes," Gilbert whispered. "for as long as the Sun and Moon shall endure, and much longer."

They moved closer together, and Gilbert lowered his head down and gently kissed her. Anne felt her hands weaving their way through his hair, and he encircled his arms around her back, giving her wobbly knees enough support. He tilted his head in another direction, and Anne leaned into him because her legs were now giving her no support whatsoever. She felt a warm tingling on her spine and, most of all, in her heart. What felt like a lifetime later, they broke apart, and Anne looked into his eyes and said: "I am your Anne, no-one else's, and I will be yours for the rest of eternity and much, much longer."
