Lucky Man
Authoress: Wee-Me
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Betelgeuse or Lydia, I don't think I even corner their romance angle, so don't sue me. This is for fun (and saving my sanity), not profit. I don't own Harlequin either, though I've read some of their books over the years.
Begin
He's always the first to say that romance is just not his thing on the rare occasions anyone would think to bring it up with him. He's certainly not known for it. Most people would laugh if you put him and romance in the same conversation, let alone sentence.
He can do surprises, like a quick trip to her favorite bookstore three states over just because.
He can sometimes manage sweet, like exotic flowers from wherever he's been travelling or a bottle of her real mother's hard to find perfume.
He can sometimes even get helpful right. He took her to scope out scenery didn't he? Maybe she'd only intended for him to take her to lunch, but she'd liked the view when she stopped pouting at him long enough to look around. It was exactly what she'd been wanting to draw, but couldn't find.
Still he wouldn't call any of that, or himself, romantic unless he was laying it on thick for someone else's benefit (conning he would say was his thing). The big flashy Harlequin romance style evening out or Valentine's displays weren't something he could do with any real success or a straight face.
But then again he's also the one to always say how lucky he is to have a woman who doesn't care about those things. She'd rather listen to his crazy stories than have him recite poetry. She prefers Halloween hijinks to Valentine's dinners. She likes ghostly encounters better than gondola rides or moonlit serenades or any of the other things that women are supposed to want. Best of all, instead of falling for some Romeo-wannabe she loved him, wholly and completely, and that alone made him the luckiest man living or dead.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Close to 300 words that prove that romance isn't my thing either. A gift for Kawaii Usagi Chan San because she made the 100th review for my story "Pieces In A Pocket" (which is great 'cause she's awesome). Hope you like it doll. (Part of my "13 Posts of Halloween". Further notes in my bio.) Please enjoy.
