A/N: Just a little something I've had going around my head for a little while. It didn't turn out quite the way I thought it would, but I hope you like it anyway. (N.B: This is obviously their first child, so I like to think it's while she's pregnant with Jimmy)
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Overprotective
She was going to kill him.
She was almost certain that she could get away with it by pleading that her hormones made her do it.
She watched as he paced the room, she'd stopped listening to his arguments long ago and had taken to silently fuming; waiting for him to stop so that she could present her own case.
Eventually he leaned back against the window, arms folded as he regarded her.
"I'm not incapacitated," she said in a controlled tone taking her chance.
"That's not the point," he retorted, "it's not safe, Jackie, I won't allow it."
She pursed her lips as she considered her next argument, "It's just routine questioning," she reminded him.
"Of a dangerous suspect," he shook his head, "the answer is still no."
Jackie narrowed her eyes, "Michael, you have been very protective lately and as much as I appreciate it, I really think you're overdoing it in this instance."
He narrowed his eyes in return, "Jackie, you're almost five months pregnant, it is not a good idea."
She noted the dangerous edge that had crept into his voice. Ever since she'd told him she was pregnant his protectiveness had gone into overdrive and lately he had taken to restricting her duties, to the point that it was starting to drive her slowly mad.
What a shame they always suspect the spouse, she thought idly.
"What if I promise to stay behind Robbie at all times?" she suggested, his only answer was a derisive snort. "What about if you came instead?" she continued, "Honestly, Michael, I don't see what the big deal is."
She realised she'd said the wrong thing from the way his eyes flashed as he looked up at her, "You don't-? Jackie, you are my wife and you are carrying our unborn baby, what would I do if something happened to you?" he demanded, "What would I do if I lost you, knowing that I could have prevented it? No, Jackie, I can't let you." He paused, "I just can't," he added in a quieter tone.
"I'm sorry, Michael," she said softly, "I didn't realise you felt that way about this. It wouldn't be your fault...besides, I wouldn't do anything stupid," she added as she crossed the room to stand in front of him. She took his hand, "I wouldn't do that to you."
Michael gave a defeated sigh, "I know that, I just want to keep you safe."
Jackie gave a small sigh of her own, knowing that she'd lost this one, "If it means that much to you, I won't go," she conceded, privately deciding that looking into his eyes had been her downfall.
"Thank you," he said, bringing her hand up and kissing it.
"But don't think you're getting off easily, Michael, I was really hoping to get some time away from that desk you've chained me too," she told him with a mock glare.
"Your wish is my command," he told her expansively, visibly relieved that she had conceded his point.
Jackie gave him a wicked smile, "I think I might enjoy this," she told him.
Michael groaned, giving her an exaggerated pained look, making her laugh. She wrapped her arms around his neck, "But it won't be too bad," she told him, "because in spite of it all, I do love you."
He smiled, "I love you too," he said bending down to kiss her.
As they broke apart, and Jackie wiped the lipstick from his mouth, Jackie reflected that if current indications were anything to go by, he was going to make a great father.
