A poem of how the merpeople of the Black Lake began. For the Greek Mythology Mega Prompt Challenge. Prompt: Merpeople
Under the Black Lake, no mortal dare dwell
A visit perhaps, may live tell the tale
Except one ugly fish woman, the horror in her heart,
Fell into the Black Lake, and ne'er did depart.
A young witch there once was, I tell you the truth,
Had no kindness in her soul; her name was Ruth.
She shafted her classmates to spend time alone;
if one did approach her, bad tidings she'd moan.
No love for her schooling, no family, no friends,
To the blackness of her soul she unwittingly descends.
A blackness so cold affects the outside as well,
So little Ruth's young looks flew straight to hell.
She was truly a witch in all sense of the word,
but that's not the end of the story; haven't you heard?
Merpeople were not born with the dawn of the earth;
No, twas Ruth that provided their birth.
For in the Black Lake, Ruth could see her reflection
Quite sour with no light in any direction.
And Gillyweed grew rampant on the watery shores,
Ruth wasn't satisfied; she wanted more.
So Ruth swallowed the plant, it took to her soul,
And the ugliness adapted it and spread like a mole.
She took to the water and soon sprouted a tail,
so all through the water, her fishy form would sail.
Ah, so there's one; where are the rest you may ask?
Ruth was selfish in hurtful; in this glory she would bask.
For whenever one with darkening soul would look upon her home,
She'd poison them with a magical Gillyweed grown in her living dome.
And thus began the merpeople, a hateful nasty bunch,
All because dear Ruth found a plant and decided to take a munch.
I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself. I love writing poetry too much to pass up the opportunity to write this humorous little beginnings story. Leave me reviews and I promise I'll love you!
