Ryuk had told Raito Yagami that the first user of the Death Note would neither go to heaven nor hell. Instead, they would go to Mu.
Nothingness.
Raito ran his hand through the grey suit he wore at the confrontation with Near. The holes caused by bullets were still there but he was not bleeding anymore. Surprised, Raito stripped himself of the suit jacket along with the white long sleeve shirt underneath. Looking down at his now bare chest, his wounds were completely healed.
He chuckled.
Kira would not be forgotten in the land of the living, earth. He may have lost the final battle with Near but surely one of his supporters would carry on with his dream. An ideal world, free from criminals.
"Justice will prevail" L's words echoed in his head, hauntingly.
Shaken, he looked frantically from left to right. But Ryuzaki was not there. Of course, Ryuzaki would not be there. He never used the Death Note like Raito did. Ryuzaki would be in heaven, if there was such a thing.
It was a shame that he had to get rid of Ryuzaki. He was the first person that Raito could speak on the same level with. Ryuzaki was his equal, whether he cared to admit it or not. Unfortunately, they had conflicting views of justice. And Ryuzaki was a thorn in his side in his plan of a new world.
A new world…Ryuzaki had ridiculed the thought of it. Raito remembers that day clearly. They were discussing the Kira case after Raito was let out of imprisonment and Ryuzaki got a bit sidetracked. He said that there must be a balance of all that is good and bad in the world. If Raito remembered correctly as he boasted, Ryuzaki had mumbled incoherently about yin and yang.
One could not exist without the other.
Raito snapped out his musings to become reacquainted with the never ending darkness of Mu. He supposed that he was to be afraid of nothingness (Why else Ryuk warn him about it when he first started using the Death Note?)…but he found it strangely comforting. Or was he already falling into madness?
If he had not fallen into madness already, it was sure to come eventually. All he could do in this darkness was stay still and contemplate. However, even the greatest minds get tired of thinking all the time. Well, except for L, and it could be easily seen in the bags under his eyes how dedicated he was.
Raito was taken away from his thoughts once again as his eyesight was overwhelmed by a blinding light. It was not a white light…it was a very dark shade of grey.
"Raito Yagami…tuus sors est disceptor."
to be continued?
Author's Notes:
1. Iudicium Leta means "The Judgment of Death" in Latin.
2. Translation for "tuus sors est disceptor" will be given in the next chapter if this fic is even continued.
