Inspired by a song title of Snow Patrol. It has nothing to do with the actual song…just the title.

If someone had asked her she would have said it had been a split second decision. The thing was she knew exactly when it had happened. It had happened the moment she reached down towards him, the moment their hands had touched. She knew that she could never leave him at the hands of the cylons and that she herself could never go back. It was more of a subconscious knowledge that was there from that moment forward, waiting to be released when the time was right. She had known since she pulled him up that she would betray her own people.

She could have cursed her predecessors for programming them with emotions.

Fall in love. That was her assignment and she had gladly taken it, she had gladly taken it because she had thought that she would be a catalyst. That because of her the cylons would be able to fulfill God's wish, that his children would be fruitful. No one had bothered to warn her that love was such a powerful emotion, that it was powerful enough to change everything she believed in, that it was powerful enough to cause her to turn against her own people.

Love was powerful enough to make her never leave his side.

If someone had asked her she would have said that their one night together was enough. The thing was she knew that she needed more. Seduction hadn't really been needed to get what she wanted from him. The thing was it wasn't her that he was kissing; it was the other Sharon, the Sharon that didn't know she was a cylon. And she found that the one night wasn't enough because she wanted him to be with her for who she was. She wished that when she had first met him she could have walked up to him and told her that her name was…well, something, anything else. Anything but Sharon.

Hate kept her from speaking the truth.

She was afraid that he would hate her if he knew. That he would never be able to look at her the same way again. That if he knew that she wasn't the Sharon Valerii he thought the she was, that if he knew she wasn't the kid Starbuck had introduced him to, then he wouldn't love her anymore. She had never been forced to look at herself in another light before. She had never realized that she was different from the model that he had fallen for. But she was. And she knew it and she was afraid that he would hate her for it.

Death was something that, in that one moment, she craved.

If someone had asked her she would have said she was sure. The thing was she wasn't actually sure that the love she felt was reciprocated. When Helo trained his gun on her she thought that she was facing certain death. And she would have welcomed it, because she would have rather died than have to live the rest of her life with him hating her. Oh she would have been resurrected, but at least she would always have the physical pain to match what she would have to endure internally. But as she lay on the steps the realization sank in that he hadn't been able to kill her. He claimed that it was because he needed her to get out alive but the look in his eyes told her differently.

Love was what kept them going.

It seemed like an eternity since Caprica as Sharon lay in bed with her head resting on Helo's chest. The sound of his heartbeat a lullaby to her ears. It seemed like an eternity since she had been confined to the cell. Since she had been deprived of moments like this. A small creak signified Hera shifting in her crib and Sharon smiled. Snuggling in closer to Helo, Sharon couldn't help but think back to Caprica. One night had definitely not been enough.
