After Yugi had defeated Kaiba using Exodia, The Turtle Game Shop received two videocassettes.

Grandpa said, "Yugi, two videos came for you."

Yugi asked, "Who are they from?"

Grandpa said, "Well, one's from Industrial Illusions…"

Joey yelled, "What? The creator of Duel Monsters?"

Yugi asked, "Where's the other one from?"

Grandpa said, "I do not know, but it's black and has a picture of the Red Eyes Black Dragon…"

Yugi's mind then clicked. "Black, and the Red Eyes Black Dragon? There's only one person who sent me this!" Then, he yelled, "YU-GI-OH!" Yugi transformed into his alter double, the dueling genius, Yami.

He said, "Put the tape on."

Grandpa put the tape inside the black box decorated with the Red Eyes in the VCR.

Joey pushed play, and suddenly, darkness surrounded the area and then, he appeared. The figure was indeed human, but was covered in armor that allowed him to look like the Red-Eyes Black Dragon.

He looked at Yami and stammered, "I… I never knew you would return…" Then, he grinned, "So. You are the one who defeated Kaiba. Using Exodia, no less. As you have guessed, I am the Dark Dragon Duelist."

Yami said, "And I am Yugi."

He said, "I see a lot of dueling potential in you." And he turned to see Joey. "And, I see a powerful promise in him too. Tell me, Yugi, friend of yours?"

Yami smiled, "His name's Joey."

The Dark Dragon Duelist grinned, "I see."

Yami said, "Rumor has it that you're looking for a protogé."

The Dark Dragon Duelist smiled, "Perhaps, Yugi. I promise you, by the pyramids of Egypt, we will meet in real life."

Then, as fast as he appeared, the enigmatic Dark Dragon Duelist disappeared.
