Where Tsuna ends, Tsunayoshi begins.
Tsunayoshi has always been with Tsuna, since birth, through childhood, into the mafia. He's always been watching, watches as Tsuna gets bullied, watches as he falls and fails. Tsunayoshi grits his teeth and watches, because there is nothing Tsunayoshi can do to help. There is always, a thin, transparent wall that separates them. It looks so flimsy that sometimes, Tsunayoshi feels that a single puff of breath will destroy it…it's just wishful thinking on his part. The wall is stronger than anything that exists; it is also the only thing that prevents Tsunayoshi from holding Tsuna in his embrace. He curses it for that very fact.
The only time when he can even get close to breaking the wall is when Tsuna goes into hyper dying will mode. Then, their positions reverse, Tsuna is on his side and he is on Tsuna's side. There is always a fleeting moment as they switch, when Tsunayoshi can touch Tsuna, fingers brushing against skin, lips so close but never touching. It is like a whisper of hope in eternal darkness, a bright burst of blinding light before all is dark again. It is the cursed promise of something never-to-be and Tsunayoshi dreads it as much as he craves it.
To Tsunayoshi, Tsuna is the ultimate light. He has been bullied, thrust into an unfamiliar world, threatened and yet, his love knows no bounds, the sky whose heart will never cease to accept all who come his way. Tsunayoshi on the other hand, is vengeance born of kindness. He wants to destroy all who has made Tsuna miserable, destroy the Vongola which threatened to push them into insanity. He doesn't. Tsuna is watching from behind the wall with loving eyes and trusting smiles. There is no way Tsunayoshi will destroy their bond. So he fights for Tsuna and all his friends.
Sometimes, in the utter darkness of their shared mind, Tsunayoshi and Tsuna will stand as close as they possibly can with only the wall separating them, hands to hands, forehead to forehead and in a mimicry of a dance, they move from side to side. Always perfectly in sync but never touching, as if being mocked by a being of a higher status (you'll never meet, two sides of the same coin, never ever).
Sometimes, Tsunayoshi's not really sure if Tsuna realizes that he exists. Sometimes, Tsuna acts as if all of it is a dream, that their love is made up, that Tsunayoshi does not exist. Tsuna smiles at his guardians and tells them about everything except about Tsunayoshi. Tsunayoshi can't help but feel a little doubtful. But then, Tsuna presses his lips against the wall, staring imploringly at Tsunayoshi and Tsunayoshi can't resist kissing back, wishing that instead of feeling the cold wall, he could be feeling the warmth of Tsuna's lips, wrap his arms around a petite frame and never let go.
Tsunayoshi knows that he's supposed to be the sensible, cool side of Tsuna. But sometimes, even he can't help but dream. Neither he nor Tsuna believe in a god but he still prays that one day the wall will disappear. Then, the light and dark of their shared mind can mingle and together they can dance in the eternal gray. Tsuna to Tsunayoshi, light to dark, together forever in the eternal gray.
