I'm not being stood up. He's just late. Yeah, late. Lucy thought as she sat alone at a two person table located in a cozy little cafe. The waiter stopped by for the fifth time already since she ordered her water.

"Are you sure you're not going to order, miss?"

"No. I'm sure he'll show up soon." The waiter still continued staring at her with concern and a little impatience. Suddenly a guy sat down at the other end of Lucy's table.

"Ah, I'm here. Sorry I'm so late. Forgive me." He expresses "We'll order soon, thank you." The waiter hmms and walks off shaking his head. "Just go with it." He whispers.

"Who the hell are you?" Lucy fiercely whispers back.

"I'm here to help you. You looked so embarrassed." He mumbles rubbing the back of his neck. Lucy stared at him, incredulous.

"What?!"

"ShHhhhHH." He leans forward and lifts a hand; as if to shut her mouth himself. Lucy looks around and notices quite a few were looking their way.

She lowers her voice and stares down this stranger with a lot of confusion. She tries to calm her voice. "Why did you decide to help me?"

"Because you looked so embarrassed like I said before. Wow, you're not very bright are you?"

"You dare speak to me like that when I don't even want you here!" She whisper yells.

"Fine. I'll leave." He stands.

"No, wait." She says in a panic and reaches out and grabs his arm.

He looks down at her hand and back up at her with a raised eyebrow. "So, now you want me to stay?"

She quickly takes her hand away. Looking off with more than a little shame she mumbles, "Yes."

He smiles, "Okay." The stranger then makes himself comfortable in his chair. A awkward silence descends on them.

What do I even say in this situation? Lucy wonders to herself. Thankfully the silence ended when the waiter returned. Lucy, appreciative of the distraction, ordered strawberry pancakes. The guy ordered something but Lucy was too busy studying him to pay attention. The awkwardness returned as soon as the wait staff left.

"I'm going to go to the bathroom." Lucy states as she stands.

This time it was the stranger that reached out and grabbed her arm. "You're not going to leave me here, alone, right? That would be humiliating." He adds the last word with a wink and a exaggerated pout.

Lucy surprises herself when she lets out a giggle. "I promise I'll come back." Rightfully comforted he sits back with a smile and mock waves as Lucy makes her way to the restroom.

After doing her business she returned to the table; thankfully the food was there. Using the excuse of eating she avoided talking.

"You know it's normal for people to make conversation when feasting together." he states with that annoying eyebrow raised. Lucy finally looks up.

"Did you really just call it feasting?" Lucy inquiries.

"I don't know about you but this," he gestures to his food' "is a feast." Lucy finally took notice of how much food he actually had.

"How- what- how do they even have food left for the other customers?" Lucy couldn't believe she was so flustered that she didn't notice his mass amounts of food.

"Don't know. And that's their problem."

Even though he had mountains of edible substance and she only had pancakes they managed to finish at the same time.

"I am not paying for you."

"Fine.. even when I save you.."

"It's not my fault you ordered one of everything!"

They finally get outside the cafe and Lucy was ready for farewells. Clearly I need to cut things lose, she thought.

He apparently saw the goodbye in her eyes so he rushed out, "My name is Natsu and I think the guy that stood you up is a total tool and that we shoulddothisagain!"

Lucy reeled back, shocked again. "Uhm, Okay... Yeah, sure. We'll do this again."

Maybe being stood up wasn't so bad after all.
