Crack-Boom! The sky abruptly lit up as if a million flood lights were turned on at once. Just as quickly the sky darkened as thunder rumbled once more, so loudly that it was if the air itself was vibrating. Rain fell from the heavens like liquid bombs, hitting the world below without mercy. The sky was a fierce battleground of water and light, each trying to outdo the other. Down on the ground, an equally fierce battle was taking place. Only four figures remained standing, bruised and bleeding. Around the foursome lay their comrades, either unconscious or groaning in agonizing pain, unable to continue fighting. Between them rested the reason for this bloody battle, the Master Emerald. A magical gem so powerful, it was rumored to be able to perform unimaginable miracles. Within the wrong hands though, it could be used to destroy the world.
"Give up Scourge! It's three against one!" A battered and bruised azure hedgehog shouted at his opponent before trying to catch his breath. His words were nearly drowned out by a sudden, furious gust of wind that ripped through the clearing the four figures were in. One of the two hedgehogs behind the blue hero nearly fell over as the wind slammed against him. Thankfully the ebony hedgehog next to him grabbed the white hedgehog's arm and forced him to stay on his feet.
"Sonic! We need to end this now!" The black hedgehog growled as the wind died down momentarily, allowing words to be spoken without being swept away. Upon closer inspection, one could see that the black and white hedgehogs were in a lot worse condition compared to their blue counterpart. Their fur was matted with thick mud and blood that was seeping from their deep, throbbing wounds. Both were barely able to stand as they attempted to catch their breath.
"Alright, Shadow, Silver, I think we're going to need to go to the next level if we're going to win this." Sonic told his comrades as he glared at his green look-alike with hatred.
The emerald-colored hedgehog chuckled. "Even if the three of you went super, it still wouldn't be enough to defeat me. You know, I'm feeling generous, I'll show you what real power is!" Suddenly Scourge lunged toward the Master Emerald. Seeing this, the other three also bolted toward the sparkling gem. If the green hedgehog managed to turn super before they did, it would be all over. All four of the hedgehogs managed to touch the Master Emerald at the same time, each trying to pull out enough energy to trigger the transformation to turn into their super forms.
Something went wrong. For a second, it was as if the power had been simply turned off, no energy flowed from the giant gem to the confused hedgehogs. Without warning, a massive wave of pure energy hit them. It was like being ran over by a massive truck; even the ultimate lifeform couldn't handle this sudden amount of raw chaos energy. Everything faded into white for the hedgehogs.
