Please enjoy this little drabble. I wrote it for the Drabble Game Challenge.
Severus kept the heavy book perched on his hand while he reached way up into the restricted section. He was trying to reach an old, dusty volume of a potions textbook that was no longer taught at Hogwarts, but contained different recipes for potions he wished to get his hands on. "Almost, come on.." His hand was so close, just a little farther...
His foot slipped off the stool he was using to elevate himself. He dropped the book he was holding, and heard it thud to the floor.
He started to fall as well. But unlike the book, he was caught before he reached the floor.
They had brief eye contact.
"Oh, it's you." His savior said snarkily as he placed Severus' feet on the floor. "What are you even doing here? Aren't there enough books already in the Ravenclaw common room?"
Severus just stared. The person who saved him was...James Potter.
Ugh. Really? Of all the people in school, it had to be the most arrogant, most stubborn, and most lazy. Not only that, James bullied him constantly.
How James was ever sorted into Slytherin, of all the Houses, Severus had no idea. He'd always seemed more a Gryffindor.
Severus straightened his blue-and-silver tie a little. "Uh- no, there are not. We always like to have a variety."
James smirked, then picked the book off the ground. "Oh, what's this? Trying out something different?"
He started to page through it.
"Uh, that was mine-" Severus started to reach for it.
James slammed it shut with one hand. "I think I'll keep it."
"I'm sorry, what?" James wasn't one to enjoy reading. Especially a complex potions textbook.
James started to walk away, book in hand, deviously smiling.
Severus sighed. It seemed he'd have to find a different copy.
That's done! Review if you want to.
