A Slytherin Short II

By Delilah

I walked into the courtyard, holding my head high with my books in my arms. As I passed, I could here the others twittering to themselves.
"Heh, look at that nasty Slytherin."
"She doesn't deserve to be here."
"Stuck up freak."
"She probably just came from hexing some poor Hufflepuff." My fellow students and I had been enduring this for weeks. The Haughty, "noble" pureblood Slytherins just shrugged it off-they viewed them as a lower species; inferior to them. But for the rest of us-muggles, half bloods, and normal purebloods- it came close to hell.

We had done absolutely nothing to them, ever, and they accused of us hating muggles, being stuck up, using that horrid m word-but we hadn't. They seemed to have forgotten that there are more Slytherin traits then being cunning and sly-there was also being resourceful, determined, and ambitious.

"I bet she's just about to go and join some of her cronies and go beat up some muggles."

My eyes flew open and my posture went rigid. Then I heard laughter.

"Aw, look at the poor little Slytherin. Ain't got your big mouth now, do ya?"

I grabbed my wand and turned it around, pointing it at the boy's chest.

"For your obviously lacking information I gave never laid a finger on anyone for their blood, and never will. Why would I persecute my mothers people?"

It took them a couple seconds to figure that I was a half blood. Before they could say anything more I took the opportunity to say what had been skirting around my mind for the last week.

"You think you're all so great, don't you? You think you are righteous and loving and that Slytherins are mean , cruel, and evil."

There was a silence, which I took to mean yes. I don't think anyone would've spoken anyway.

"But you Gryffindors do the same thing to us. You hate us, call us filthy names, and hex us in the hallway. Can't you get it through your heads that not all Slytherins are stuck up purebloods? Obviously Gryffindors aren't the wonderful beings you thought your selves to be."

I then realized that it just wasn't the boys that were listening to me. The whole courtyard of Gryffindors and a few Hufflepuffs went silent. Not wanting what I was sure to come afterwards, I turned on my heel and abruptly walked away.

As I was leaving, I heard this...

"D'you think she really is a half blood?"

"Dunno, but I heard that Greg's cousin got into Slytherin last year, and he's muggle born..."

I smiled to myself and continued walking.
