AN Sorry I've been so long away but I've just finished my exams, yay.

Rating – PG

Disclaimer – We've established so far that I don't own Gundam Wing, Weiss Kreuz, Harry Potter, Red Dwarf, The Handmaid's Tale, any of Homer's works, and Gravitation. Why, I ask you, would SG1 be any different?

Summary – Jack thinks as he watched the aftermath of a battle and the effects on the people who were caught in it.

Aftermath

Jack's POV

Devastation.

That's the only thing visible for miles and even that seems like such an inconsequential word for the complete and utter chaos that I'm witnessing here.

People, everywhere I look, are howling, praying, dying.

Screaming for family and friends, whereabouts unknown or worse.

Bleeding from wounds that will hideously scar, if they survive at all.

Running, falling, burning, crying bloody tears.

There's a man, struggling against a group of people who are holding him back. He doesn't stand a chance against them but he's still fighting frantically, trying to get inside a shattered structure it can be safely assumed was his home, it looks set to collapse at any second, even as the walls burn brightly and yet he still fights, screaming that his wife and children are inside.

His final plea dies on his lips as the home succumbs and falls, burying anyone inside under a ton of rubble and sentencing them to a certain death.

He stops struggling then and seems to collapse in on himself, mouth frozen as the once detaining crown now holds him up. His eyes are wide, the burning fireball that also serves as the grave of his family reflecting in his eyes. His face is pasty with shock, greyed by dust, ru8bble and the knowledge that comes with seeing your family crushed in an instant by a flick of Fate's wrist.

What do you say to someone who's just lost his entire world, seen it disappear under crumbled stone for the whims of a power hungry politician with the power to say who lives or dies?

What do you say to someone who's just lost everything for… nothing?

Sorry?

Sorry doesn't mean anything.

Doesn't change things.

Won't bring them back.

Doesn't make it better.

Doesn't atone for sins no matter what the Bible says.

Doesn't change the fact that, acting on orders or not, you caused this.

No matter what you say, do or promise.

It is your fault.

And that will never change.

End

AN Quite depressing really but hey, lots of my fics are depressing, especially lately, well, please review.
