Timeframe: Sometime in ME1, in the alternate universe of "Solid Fluidity", where Shepard and Garrus have a relationship right from the start. Shepard and Wrex are good friends and to Garrus's bewilderment, Wrex is kind of friendly towards him.
The reason? Here is how Wrex is telling it to some nosy person in a bar.
Listen up, you! Let me tell you about Shepard.
Most krogan don't take humans seriously. They think they are squishy and weak. These krogan never met Shepard.
I've met Shepard before the galaxy knew her as The Commander.
Let's see, that was a few years ago.
An asari merchant hired me. A little asari had been taken hostage and they wanted me to find her. Now, usually you don't hire a krogan for a delicate situation like that. I'm not exactly known for being a gentle battlemaster. Turns out, they didn't really care about the girl, she was just a miners daughter. But along with her they had taken some very valuable cargo and I was supposed to get that back.
Now normally that would have been easy enough but I ran into a trap and got pinned down. Stupid mistake. Three asari commandos and a bunch of halfway capable asari mercs. I was fighting for my life when suddenly three humans appeared out of nowhere and mowed down the first wave. When they came up to me, they pointed their guns at me. Now that's unusual in itself, most people don't stop to ask if they see an armed krogan. Usually they just shoot.
But Shepard asked what I was doing here and I wasn't sure what to say. She had this fierce honesty in her eyes and you don't get as old as me without some way of telling the good and the bad people apart. She looked like good people. So I told her about the girl and the cargo.
She asked me, "So, you're after the cargo and you're not going to save that girl?" And I don't know why because I wasn't even sure about it myself but I said "No, I'm going to save the girl and then get the cargo."
After I said that I heard the click of a pistol's safety and wouldn't you know it, she had a pistol pointed at me, hidden under her arm. I have no doubt, if I hadn't answered like that, she would have shot me on the spot and her two soldiers would have finished me off.
"Alright," she said, "we get the girl and then you can take the cargo. But if we have to blow the cargo to save the girl, we're gonna do it, understood?" I agreed, what else could I do? Wasn't exactly in a position to argue, hell, she could still shoot me and take the cargo herself.
So we cleaned out the place, got the girl, found the cargo and she gave it to me without hesitation. Trustworthy, that woman. We stayed in touch, even did some things together. She called me her battletank. Never acted weird around me and I asked her about that. She told me that they, the humans, as the new guys, didn't have all that baggage of stereotypes and prejudice that the older races had. They just took us like we were. Even saw that we had things in common. Did you know the humans almost blew up their own planet with nuclear bombs? The place would have looked like Tuchanka today. Yeah, they are a violent bunch, you wouldn't think so if you looked at them.
So, yeah, I trust Shepard. And I trust her instincts.
She is the queen of the battlefield. Shame that they are such a short lived species. Such a waste. If I'm lucky I'll live long enough to see her die in honor. That will be the battle of the century.
So if she likes a turian, I'm gonna trust her instincts. Even if he is a turian, Shepard likes him and that's enough for me.
He may be a stinking turian but he's her turian. Shepard knows what you are when she looks at you. She looked at this guy and she took him to her side. You don't argue with that.
He isn't bad. For a turian.
I actually kind of like the kid.
Now pass the Ryncol, I'm done talking with you.
I hope you liked that.
