Dipper didn't like the new guy.
There wasn't anything wrong with him per se-he had some friends, his grades were fine as far as Dippers knowledge went and he didn't cause trouble.
This normalcy however was one of the reasons Dipper felt some antipathy towards him. A new student should have some troubles adjusting, some problems with new friends or something. This one had appeared one day and integrated in school life within seconds. He did seem like quite the fruitcake though, but that looked to be the only notable thing about him.
He had checked every book and journal he had, trying to find some creature that matched the description. He had realized after the first hour that blond, normal and fruitcake weren't really much to go on however. So Dipper had resigned himself to observing the guy. From this he had learned that the senior lead an ordinary life, which only served to infuriate him further.
"I swear something's not right Mabel! The guy's hiding something."
"Sure bro. Just like Jeremy was actually a vampire. You have to learn to stop being so paranoid!" His sister punched his shoulder lightly.
Dipper winced."It's not paranoia if you're right. Also could…"
Mabel looked over her shoulder to see her brother frozen, with his gaze fixed on something in the distance.
"Dipper?"
"That's his car."
"Whose car?" Mabel turned around and walked over to her brother.
"Roberts!'' Dipper hissed at her."Look at it!"
"It's just standing there Dipper. Come on, let's go."
Dipper pointed towards the vehicle."The windows are white! What's up with that? Come on, we gotta see what it is."
"Ugghhhhh." Mabel let out a groan and followed her brother, who had already begun his attempt to "sneak" up to the car.
After almost a minute of Dipper embarrassing himself they reached the rather small car. The windows did indeed appear white due to what seemed to be smoke.
"He's probably just getting high in there. Let's go." Mabel tugged at his brothers shoulder.
Dipper didn't seemed to hear his sister however, grabbed the cars door handle and promptly flung them open. The smoke smelling of burned leaves coiled out of the car revealing an unmoving body seated in front of the wheel. The stillness of the man quickly removed the thoughts of confrontation from Dippers mind.
He reached out to grab Robert. The calmness was suddenly broken as the man animated and grabbed Dippers hand before it could reach him. He used it as leverage to pull his face right in front of Dippers. His open eyes were showing only whites and a gentle smile adorned his features.
The moment was frozen in time. The eyes of Robert rolled back into position and Dipper found himself staring into a calm, smiling face.
"Dipper. Mabel." Robert spoke in a smooth tone."To what do I owe the pleasure?"
Dipper found himself unable to move as the shock set in.
"We just thought to see how you were doing." Mabel gave him a smile of her own while pulling her catatonic brother away.
"How you. I do hope to meet again soon." His grip slackened as he allowed Dipper to be pulled away.
Dipper managed one final look back, only to see Robert giving him a pleasant smile and waving goodbye.
As soon as the twins disappeared around the corner Robert got out of the car with a grunt and stretched. He gave a small turn with his hand in the air and white light danced around his fingertips. The smoke rushed out of the car and into the air. He leaned against the car and drummed his fingers on the hood.
"Hmmm. A bit too soon, a bit too soon."
He looked towards the way the two had gone, sighed and pulled out a pack of Winstons. A few more minutes were spent as he finished the coffin nail. Robert threw the butt away and sat back into the car. He leaned back and took a deep breath. A thick plume of smoke accompanied the exhale and the interior of the car became obscured by white once more.
