Recollected Memories

Disclaimer: I do not own Fruits Basket.

Ever since Tohru Honda was young, she would space out. Spacing out, staring into space, staring at the walls in front of her as if she were in a trance… But why? Why did she do all those things?

She was lonely.

When her mother abandoned her after her father had died from an illness that penetrated him, Kyoko was at lost of what to do. After all… Katsuya was the one who pulled Kyoko through the "Red Butterfly" times.

Now thinking back, Tohru remembered that at times, her mother would her stories about what she would do if this happened and if that happened.

One of the stories she told was that whenever Kyoko felt at lost, or depressed, she would get up – even in the middle of the night – and ride her motorcycle, hair billowing in the wind and feeling the cool night's air.

It felt so good, she had said. The air was so crisp, I felt free.

She had always spaced out. Just as Kyoko had rode the night, black trench coat with the red butterfly symbol embedded on the back flowing through the wind to keep the depressed thoughts away, Tohru let them come.

She would close her eyes and let them flow from within. She would stand still and just memories flow. She would…reminisce.

That was why she always had spaced out after her father had died. Even though she barely knew him, she thought about him. The stories that her mother would tell her about him – that he was always so kind and polite yet funny at the same time.

Like when she had called Kyoko "Miss No Eyebrows".

She had laughed so hard and teased her mother. Her mother – in turn – only pouted and said that the name was only to be used by Katsuya.

So Tohru stopped teasing her mother.

Another story Kyoko had told her was the Zodiac story – where the thirteen animals had gathered for a banquet. Only, the cat was left out because he was tricked by the mouse.

After hearing the legend, she dreamed about meeting the cat for days – weeks.

Heck, she was still dreaming about him. About the cat…

When her mother died, she was devastated. First her father and then her mother? She couldn't handle it.

She became ditzy because she spaced out so often from reliving memories.

She would remember that mother had said this and that… She wanted to run away, to hide – but no. She would remain strong. Keep living and moving forward and onto graduating!

That was what her mother wanted…

So often, she would relive memories in the hallways…

Meeting Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima was one of the most pleasant experiences. She would treasure the memory and relive it over and over again forever.

She would replay it in her mind, right before she went to sleep.

When she met the Sohma's, she was thrilled to have met the cat.

That night, after meeting them, she replayed her meeting of the cat in her mind right before she went to sleep.

Author's Note: A bit of Kyoru if you can see… ((shrugs)) It's growing onto me. I might write a Yuichi fic next! Maybe. XD Right now, I'm still stuck on the Prince of Tennis fandom… Just needed a break. Ughhhh… Anyways, comments, thoughts, advice? Unbetaed.
