An EdxWin oneshot I did. Enjoy ~

I Could Wait Forever.

It was a warm evening, although there was a soft breeze blowing Winry's blonde hair round her face. She could still see the fields over Risembool, as the dying sunset in the distance shone a faint light over the many acres of farmlands that stretched out in the view in front of her. Her arms were starting to hurt as she'd remained the same position for the last hour; her elbows propped up on the balcony outside her bedroom, holding her tired head in place. She couldn't bear waiting, although, she'd been doing it all day. Just watching with her azure eyes, searching for a certain figure to come over that hill…

The crumpled letter was still stuffed in her pocket, a couple of untidy lines scrawled across it;

Winry. Coming home today. Just me.

Ever since she'd opened the envelope that morning, a smile had spread across her face as she'd recognised that familiar untidy writing of a certain automail patient of hers. That smile had remained etched there all day, as she scuttled round the house, glancing out the window every five minutes; looking for that red coat, blonde hair, gold eyes…

She let out a frustrated sigh, sitting upwards and taking her elbows off the balcony. How long was he going to take? Eventually, Winry gave up, letting out a soft sigh and rubbing her chilled arms as she turned back inside from the fading darkness outside; but suddenly, she was stopped by the sound of footsteps coming over the hill.

There it was: the small, white house on top of the hillside that the blonde alchemist had since called home. Red coat draped over one metal arm, Ed's face spread into a grin as he saw a figure waving at him from the top balcony, her blonde hair let loose of its usual ponytail, and swirling round in the mild wind that was travelling across the valley. He raised his hand in reply, and blinked as his legs seemed to control themselves, running quickly up the hill. Winry flung open the door, a huge smile on her face. Deep gold met sky blue and in a reckless hurry, Winry found herself throwing her arms round her childhood friend and hugging him tightly than she ever had before.
"I missed you." She whispered.

He was home.
