AUTHORS NOTE : Hey there, and welcome to my first ever fanfiction. Sorry if this is complete and utter trash. There have been no beta reads. This story is purely self indulgent. I will be happy if even one person enjoys it. If i made any really obvious mistakes please let me know. Without futher ado, on with the story. More notes at end of chapter.
Hinata had been missing from practice for two days now and it was later discovered that he was also absent from school. At the end of volley ball practice on the second day and the team had packed up and were standing in a group waiting to leave. "Has anyone heard from Hinata?" Asked Sugawara.
"No" chorused the team.
"Dumbass, he won't ever improve if he misses practice" muttered Kageyama.
"Thank you for volunteering to check on him Kageyama" said Daichi, fixing him with a stony glare. Kageyama shivered violently. "Why don't you bring his homework along too" continued Daichi.
"Yes sir" choked out Kageyama and with that the members of the Karasuno volley ball club filtered out of the gym.
Kageyama wandered down the street with his hands in his pocket then turned onto the road that would lead him to Hinata's house. He quickly stepped up to the door and rung the doorbell. Hinata's Mum answered the door with a smile. "Hello young man, how can I help you" she said lightheartedly.
"Is Hinata here?" Kageyama questioned. "I have some homework for him."
"Ah yes, Shouyo is in his room, it's the first room you come to. I think that he has been rather sick for the past few days so please don't stay for too long" replied the jolly woman.
"Thank you ma'am" Kageyama said as he headed up the stairs. When he reached the right room, he dug Hinata's homework from his bag and knocked sharply on the door. "Hinata. It's me, Kageyama. I've brought you homework." His statement was met by a muffled thud. "Are you ok dumbass," he waited for a second before continuing ",I'm gonna come in so you better be decent." He began to push the door open the stopped short when he heard Hinata's high pitch screech of "NO" followed by "Um, I mean don't come in, I'll come over to you." Hinata's words were followed by a considerable amount of rustling and banging, which Kageyama presumed was Hinata getting dressed. Then he heard something weird, after a rather loud bumb that sounded like it could be quiet painful, Hinata, at least he thought it was Hinata, let out a sharp catlike yowl of pain which quickly became muffled. "What was that Hinaata? Are you ok?" Kageyama questioned worriedly.
"I just stubbed my toe, don't worry." Hinata's squeaked. Seconds later the door cracked open and Hinata snaked his hand out "you can give me the work then go, I'm fine."
"Suga said I've got to catch you up with everything, just let me in" Kageyama said raising his voice. He pushed the door further open and tried to step inside, much to Hineta's protest. Hinata backed away as Kageyama shoved his way into the room and pulled the hood of his jumper down. "What's the hood for dumbass?" Kageyama questioned.
"Jus cold I guess." Hinata replied.
"Come on, you don't need a hood" said Kageyama reaching towards Hinata to pull his hood down. Hinata panicked and backed away quickly raising a hand up to keep his hood in place. Kageyama pressed forward "Dumbass. What's with the hood." Hinata continued to back away holding the hood over his eyes. Then he swiftly turned tail and tried to run. Kageyama chased him around the room. However because his eyes were nearly covered this did leave him more prone to tripping and his floor was already very messy. It wasn't long before he stumbled and began to fall back. Kageyama ended up falling on top of him too. They hit the floor with a thud and Hinatas hood slipped from his head to reveal, two ginger pointed cat ears. Kageyama's mouth dropped open and he reached out a hand to touch one of the ears. When his fingers brushed it the ear twitched violently. "What the..." he began. Hinatas face was filled with panic. His eyes were wide and his lips were pursed tightly. It was then that Kageyama noticed that Hineta's eyes also had catlike qualities. They had slit-like pupils that changed size constantly as the level of light changes. "What are you?" Kageyama exclaimed.
"I don't know" whimpered Hineta softly. Kageyama slowly got up of the floor and started to back towards the door. "No, don't go, please I won't hurt you. My family doesn't know, you're the only on that knows" Hineta cried. Kageyama stopped in his tracks then tiptoed gingerly towards the bed and sat down heavily. Shouyo came and sat at the other end of the bed. "So.." started Kageyama "what the ... what the heck is going on."
"I don't really know. They just happened. Appeared over night." Answered Hineta bluntly.
"Is there anything else. O-other than the ears and your eyes I mean." Stuttered Tobio.
"I have a tail" said Hinata flatly, pulling a ginger tail out of his trousers, "And when I get stressed claws."
Kageyama leaned forward at the sight of Hinatas tail and reached out to touch it. His hand stroked down it and Hinata let out a happy sigh and started purring noisily. His hands flew to his mouth in surprise and he turned beet red. Kageyama chuckled and Hinata hid his face in his hands. "I can't help it" he squeaked.
"It's so weird" Kageyama muttered.
"I know. I'm a freak. What am I going to do?" Hinata put his face in his hands. "Do you think that I don't know that?" Hinata flopped onto the bed face down and his tail twitches sadly in the air.
"Dumbass, you're not a freak they're just different from what I'm used that's all." Kageyama exclaimed. He continued on "How will you play volleyball though?"
"I don't know," Hinata cried out ", why do you think I wasn't in school for the past two days, I hate missing volleyball practise. I will never beat you at this rate!"
"You'll never beat me. That's a given" the words slipped from Kageyama's mouth without thought. He froze when he saw the shocked look on Hinata's face. Instantly he regretted his words. Hinata was going through enough without him adding fire to the flames. Hinata's ears dropped down dejectedly and his previously swishing tail fell solemnly onto the bed with a soft thump. Tear drops collected in the corner of his eyed and slowly tracked down his face. Kageyama didn't know what to do. What is he supposed to do in this situation? Hinata probably wouldn't take kindly to any of his efforts. They sat in silence while Hinata silently sobbed. "Hinata, I..." Kageyama started.
"No I think you should just leave," Hinata forced out. "You've done enough." He stood up and pulled his hood back over his face. "Thank you for bringing my homework over Kageyama" the emotionless tone of Hinata's voice felt so wrong to Kageyama. Hinata pulled open the door of his bedroom to allow him to leave before closing the door with a very final thud.
AUTHORS NOTE: this is basically as far as I have planned. If anyone has any ideas of what direction this could go in then please let me know. It will probably only be a few chapters anyway
