Ellie sighed as she woke up. Craig laid, still asleep next to her. She hadn't even heard him come in. It seems he was coming in later and later. He told her it wasn't drugs or another woman but she wasn't sure if she believed him.
She quietly got up and started getting ready for work. She thought she'd be happy. She was married to the man she loved and writing for a magazine but she felt like something was missing. She and Craig were trying to have a child and failing miserably.
She finished getting ready for work and saw Craig was still asleep. She thought about waking him then shook her head. It's not like it'd matter if she got him up. He wasn't working. He was supposed to be working on his new album but it seemed he'd given that up. Ellie had been working extra hard so they wouldn't lose their home. She was the only one making an income and it was hard. She wished someone told her how hard it would be. She left fighting back tears.
Hours later Craig awoke. He felt like shit. He'd been dropped by his record label and still hadn't told Ellie. He'd been trying to find new representation but no one wanted him so he took to drinking every night. He felt bad for lying to Ellie but he couldn't tell her the truth.
Craig laid in bed for a moment then rolled out and hopped into the shower. He was trying to find anything to do with music. He was going to audition to be a wedding singer for some couple. A friend of a friend recommended him to the couple. He didn't want to be wedding singer but it was better then nothing, and it was only for one couple. The pay wasn't that bad either. After that audition he had a meeting with another record label. He just hoped this one would go better then his others.
He quickly shaved and got dressed. He grabbed his jacket and hesitated as he saw a picture of him and Ellie on their wedding day. They looked so happy. "I'll make it up to you El, I'll get you everything you deserve and we'll have our happily ever after!"
Meanwhile, Ellie was throwing herself into her writing. She ate lunch at her desk, not wanting to talk to her co-workers. She hated hearing about children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. It was enough to make her want to burst in to tears. Why couldn't she get pregnant? What was wrong with her? She frowned as she proof read her article and saw all the mistakes she made. First she's having problems at home, and now she's screwing up her articles for work?
She checked her e-mail and saw her boss sent her something 10 minutes ago. She read it and smiled. It was just what she needed! She went to her bosses off and knocked on the door.
"I just saw your e-mail and yes, I'd love to go to LA to interview the Oscar winners!"
Her boss smiled and had her sit down as they went over the itinerary for her upcoming trip. This trip was just what she need. She could use a break from everything, even Craig. As much as she loved him and wanted to be with him, she wasn't sure he loved her and wanted to be with her anymore. Maybe a little time apart could show them how much they need each other.
"I can't wait to go! I promise the article will be great!" Ellie went back to work feeling much better and felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
Craig swore as he drove down the street. He had fucked up his audition and he was pretty sure the stupid music execs didn't like him. Of course he was upset by the asshole couple. They were so uppity and rude and made him doubt himself. He was so upset he didn't notice a car barreling towards him through the red light. The car hit him head on. The last thought that ran through Craig's mind was of Ellie.
