The Ultimate Threat
"Recognized Robin B01" a computerized voice announced alerting those present at Mt. Justice to the arrival of the Boy Wonder. Robin walked in and greeted his team. They were having their weekly team meeting and possibly being assigned a mission. The only person who had yet to arrive was Batman.
The team was scattered throughout the kitchen and living area. Superboy was on the couch in the living area watching static like always, M'gann was baking cookies, Kaldur was reading a book at the island in the kitchen, and Wally and Artemis were locked in yet another argument – so another perfectly ordinary day in the life of the Young Justice team. After a few moments the computer announced the arrival of Batman. The team moved to the briefing room to await the Dark Knight's arrival. Not long after Batman walked into the room. Robin's eyes narrowed slightly behind his dark glasses, something wasn't right – not that anyone other than him would notice.
"Let's begin" Batman said. Robin's eyes narrowed even further at the barely noticeable hoarseness of his mentor's voice.
"Is something wrong?" he asked cutting off what Batman had been about to say. Batman looked over to his protégé.
"No" he said shortly. Robin crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.
"Really?" he asked clearly not convinced. The others in the room were looking at him as if he was crazy. So far as they could tell Batman was his usual gruff and terrifying self, but then again, Robin could always tell when something was up with the man.
"Yes, really I'm fine" Batman replied glaring at the boy. Robin was, of course, unfazed at the glare that would send anyone else scurrying out of the room.
"No, you're not" he said matter-of-factly. Batman scowled still glaring at him.
"Let's continue" he said turning away
"What, so you're going to ignore me now?" Robin asked.
"I'm not ignoring you, there is nothing wrong" the Dark Knight replied.
"I say that there is and you should go and take care of it" the boy said now glaring at the Caped Crusader. Batman glared back. The others in the room took a few steps back from the two and the temperature of the room seemed to drop a couple of degrees. To everyone's surprise, Batman was the first to turn away, something must be wrong after all.
"It doesn't matter" he said.
"Just like it didn't last time?" Robin asked making the others wonder what he was talking about.
"That was a different situation" Batman responded.
"Yeah, but it started out the same way. A barely noticeable cold then you're bed-ridden for a week" Robin said. "Besides, you weren't going to even do anything about it."
"No, because it doesn't matter" the older hero repeated.
"It does and if you're not going to do anything about it, then I will" Robin stated confidently.
"And what are you going to do?" Batman asked. Robin was silent for a moment before smirking mischievously.
"I'll call Agent A." he said. Batman froze.
"You wouldn't" he said darkly.
"Oh no, of course not" the Boy Wonder replied, his hand moving up to his communicator. Batman sighed, defeated.
"Fine" he said. Robin smirked victoriously. The others stood gaping as Batman swept out of the room. No one dared to speak until the computer announced his departure.
"H-how did you do that?" Kid Flash asked staring at the little bird. Robin shrugged.
"I used the ultimate threat" he replied turning and walking out of the room.
