- Foreign Language -
Edward always absent-mindedly rambled to Alfons about his adventures in "his world". Alfons was used to it by now, but he'd never really been convinced that this "world" that Edward spoke of all the time actually existed. It was quite obvious that Edward could tell that he blew the whole thing off as the older boy's wild imagination, especially when he'd frown at Alfons' curt nod in response to whatever it was he had been saying.
One stormy night, Alfons had snuck into Edward's room to see if he was asleep or not. During the mindless eavesdropping, Alfons heard Edward mutter something aloud, stil sleeping, obviously not being graced with the best of dreams. Listening closely, he tried to decipher just what Edward was mumbling. Then something struck him. The language wasn't his own. Not even closely alike to German, at that.
It was indifferent; the pronunciation of each word slurred and colliding in ways he'd never heard before. Then again, the words seeping through his lips may have just been slurred like that because he was in slumber. Though, it didn't sound like it to him. It had to have been a completely different language. The thing was, he couldn't quite place which one it could possibly be.
Now, Alfons wasn't stupid. He could definately take a good stab at what language someone was speaking when it wasn't his own. But this was just so...entirely different. It was definately a confusing matter.
The thoughts of Edward's stories about another world drifted into his mind. Edward had mentioned how alike this world and the one he used to live in were, and also how they differed significantly. Maybe the words spilling from his slightly opened lips were words of the language, so foreign to him, that they spoke there. That had to be it, there was no other conclusion to the mystery.
Alfons may have doubted Edward's sanity for a while there, but all of this doubt dispersed quickly as he thought about all of this. It all just made sense, and fit together. Like a puzzle. Not saying he wouldn't question Edward about his sudden discovery.
He just knew that the older boy would be thrilled to hear just the little bit of interest Alfons had decided to confess to, lead up by the incident he'd just encountered.
Oh yes. Thrilled indeed.
