Disclaimer : If I owned Avatar, Tokka would be cannon. But Tokka isn't canon, so obviously I don't own it.
A/N: I do consider Tokka canon, in a certain sense, that Toph likes Sokka and that's its not completly inprobable like Foamtara or other fanon/crackships.
It started of as small things.
On Toph's first night traveling with the Gaang, Sokka threw a belt at the Blind Bandit, not remembering that she wouldn't be able to see it. It wasn't until the loud thunk and her shrill scream did he realize that he should probably be careful when it came to Toph. So, when Aang went all glowy and destructive in the Desert, Sokka grabbed Toph and ran. And then later, as they flew bareback on Appa, and she couldn't see a thing, he let her hold onto his arm. And so it grew. Slowly, he did these things – these helping Toph in her "blind moments"- more and more subconsciously, until he didn't even have to think anymore.
At one time in their adventures, they stopped briefly at a city on a river, and with no earth underneath, Toph was completely blind. Even on the boat ride to the city, Toph vision was impaired. So when an oar swung over their heads', Sokka didn't even think as he pushed her head down as well as his. And as they walked on the wooden boards that served as a walkway for the city, Sokka purposely perched his arm out for her to hold.
It wasn't until they had reached the Western Airtemple that Sokka realized just how bad (or perhaps, how good) things had gotten. He and Toph had taken a walk throughout the temple, and upon arriving back at the main campsite where Katara, Aang, Zuko, and the others were seated around a fire, Sokka could tell something was up by the looks his friends were giving him. As Toph and Sokka approached the group, an awkward silence fell over the group, only broken by little giggles and snickerings from Katara and Aang.
"What?" Sokka asked finally. Then he noticed his friends' eyes' were all focused at his hand, and looking down he realized that his hand was entwined in Toph's. "Why are you holding my hand?"
Toph immediately dropped his hand. " I wasn't holding your hand, meathead! You were holding mine!"
"Why would I do that? And why didn't you say anything?" Sokka asked, staring at the hand that had recently held Toph's hand.
"I don't know. Your head is hard enough for you to figure out, why do you think I do think I could?" Toph snapped before marching off.
Sokka watched her go, oddly perplexed, wondering why Toph had let him hold her hand, and more so why he was glad she had.
A/N: So a little explanation goes along with this. On ASN, one Tokka shipper was trying to say how the moment when Sokka pushed Toph's head down in the boat was a romantic moment. And well, as you watch the series you notice that at first, in mid-season two, whenever Sokka had to somehow help Toph ( running in the desert, pulling her out of danger in the season two finale) he usually calls her name, and then grabs her. Whereas in The Painted Lady, he doesn't even say anything when he pushes her head down to avoid the oar... And so I figured that his helping her has become so subconcious that he doesnt even notice it anymore. And that he'd "help" her even when the danger wasn't that dangerous at all. Like the steep canyons she could fall into if she stepped over the edge of the Western Air Temple... Which of course she wouldn't because she can feel the earth... But, you never know. And from that reasoning, this fic was spawn.
R&R please!
