The New who's in town- a Horton hears a who Fanfic
One… Two… Three… "And that's four." A short thirteen, almost fourteen- year- old, girl hissed from her hiding spot. Another gunshot, another number. Footsteps echoed in the alley, startling her.
"Amanda!" echoed up to her. She lowered her gun, dropped down, and took off. Her twin sister, Ashlie, right behind her. Amanda rounded the corner and skidded to a halt, Ashlie bumping into her. In front of them, blocking their path, were four huge Shades, six more coming up behind them.
"Ashlie, go to Jordin, get the portals, get what you need from the house, gather the others, and get out of here!" Amanda ordered. Ashlie stared at her sister, her emerald eyes widening.
"You can't be serious!"
"I am!" Amanda whipped around, her almost white hair shifting from the scars on her left eye long enough for a glimpse. Her silver/grey eyes darkened as she screamed at her sister to run. The Shades closed in, a blood-curdling scream, then a deathly silence, the whole world waiting to hear that the First Protector had survived. A roar broke the silence as a sword slashed at its arm. Blackish blood oozed from the deep gash on another's chest. More of that disgusting blackish blood splattered the walls, windows, and ground as the last and largest Shade was ripped apart. Amanda crouched on the blood soaked ground and waited, knowing he was coming. A soft step made her rise and she turned around to face the creature that ruined lives and scared helpless souls shitless. But she couldn't help but call him a friend.
"Amanda." He called softly.
"Zalgo." She whispered.
"You did a messier job than usual." He noted, nudging a random arm on the ground.
"They pissed me off." She shrugged, before looking up and smirking.
You should get going." Amanda raised an eyebrow before realizing what he meant.
"Shit!" she took off running, being sure not to make any noise as she did. Her leg was still bleeding and it hurt like hell, but she wasn't going to cry, she stopped crying a very long time ago. She muttered a string of curses as she jumped over fences, under ladders, around buildings, navigating the alleys she knew so well.
"Where are you going, little kitty?" a sing-song voice called. Amanda cringed at the name. Her father had given it to her when she was very young, and since he wasn't there, she didn't let anyone call her that anymore. The coarse laughter had her whole being screaming at her to run, just as usual. But did she listen? No, she didn't listen to what her body was telling her; instead she was coming up with a plan to kick their asses.
"Well are gonna fight or aren't ya?" he yelled. Amanda turned around just as he swung a heavy rusted chain.
"Stop!" She blocked the chain and whipped around. Her best and closest friend, Autumn, was standing there. When Amanda reached her, she sobbed.
"Autumn, what's wrong? Did something happen? Where are the others?" Autumn held up a hand before grabbing and shaking Amanda.
"Something did happen Amanda! There's been an accident. Galaxy, she-"Amanda cut her off by asking where she was. Autumn pointed and off Amanda went, leaving them all behind. Thunder rumbled ominously in the sky while down below, a girl was struggling to find her friend and apprentice.
