Trying to keep quiet, Edward Hyde walked up to the front door, shivering the whole way. It was late at night, which was a normal for him to get back, but it never kept him from trying to stay as quiet as possible- he knew that Henry Jekyll needed as much peace as he could get, especially at night. The thing was, Jekyll was a light sleeper and even the quietest noise could wake him up in a split second.
Still, this night had gotten cold faster than Hyde was expecting, the rain that was only light in the early evening had turned to a downpour, which left Hyde both soaked and freezing.
As he entered and reached the living room, Hyde found everything just as it was when he left. He could just sleep in here, like he did some nights, but he needed to get changed and his clothes happened to be in Jekyll's room- which was the only room that the door was shut.
Carefully, Hyde approached the door, ready to move away from it in case Jekyll woke up. As he opened the door, he could see that Jekyll was already awake.
"You're just getting in?" Jekyll asks. "Hyde, it's freezing out there and you're not even wearing a jacket! Not only that, but it's pouring." Hyde nods and mumbles something unintelligibly, causing Jekyll to sigh. "You're going to get yourself sick one of these days."
"But I'm not yet." Hyde answers, grabbing some clothes.
"You just go get changed, then come back in here. I have a few things I want to say to you." says Jekyll before Hyde leaves the room, but it was only a few moments later when Hyde came into Jekyll's bedroom, dressed in dry clothes. He was still shivering, though he tried to hide it from Jekyll.
"Sit next to me." Jekyll says. Hyde hesitates for a moment before doing so. "You cold?"
In response, Hyde puts a hand on Jekyll's cheek. Jekyll jerks away at the cold touch.
"I guess so." Jekyll mumbles before grabbing a blanket and handing it to Hyde. "Are you okay..?"
"I'm alright, Jekyll." Hyde wraps the blanket around his shoulders, thankful that Jekyll was a better man than he could ever think about being. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, you come in late almost every night from your walks or whatever it is you do. You barely sleep and seem to have no idea how to even take care of yourself properly." Jekyll looks at Hyde now, taking the smaller man's hands into his own. "I also care about you, okay? You, like everyone else in the world, need kindness, and to be completely honest with you, I don't see that coming from anyone else, so you better allow it to come from me."
Hyde bites his lip and looks away. He wouldn't admit it, but Jekyll's words had shocked him. No one he had ever met had even the slightest intention in showing him any form of kindness at all, but from the one who knew him best? If anything, Jekyll had the most reasons to hate Hyde.
"Hyde? Did you hear me?" Jekyll asks. Hyde looks back up at Jekyll, a grin spreading across his face. "Now what is that face for?"
"You care." Hyde's eyes brighten. "You, out of all people, care. But.. why? All I've ever done is make your life more difficult no matter what I do. I scare those you like away, no one wants to be around me and therefore you-"
"Hey, come on. I know you're not the best. I know everything you're telling me, but you don't see that stopping me from caring, do you?" Hyde shakes his head slightly. "My friends, they'll come around. They'll get used to you, I'm sure of it." Jekyll smiles gently at Hyde before wrapping his arms around Hyde's waist. Hyde tries to push Jekyll away, but it doesn't work. Eventually, Hyde rests his forehead on Jekyll's shoulder and sighs softly. "Get some rest, okay? You seem tired."
The words, though they were spoken at Jekyll's normal volume, barely registered in Hyde's mind, as he had already begun to doze off.
