Chapter One: Conversations

New Mount Justice

October 14, 2016; 14:26

"I still can't believe this is Mount Justice." Blue Beetle said.

The Team was in the lounge area of the new cave. The lounge was quite bigger than before. The couch can sit up to 13 people, there was a ninety inch LED television and just beside the lounge was the kitchen with a twin refrigerator and an electric stove. They have yet to see the other parts of the cave but they have to admit, the cave now was much bigger and better than before. The Team was lounging in the new living room of the Cave when Bart Allen, the new Kid Flash and Beast Boy appeared with an armful of junk foods. The Team laughed.

"Foodtrip!"

"Go get some bowls!" Lagoon Boy exclaimed.

Bart smiled and rushed towards the kitchen and grabbed two large bowls. "Where are the drinks?" He suddenly asked after setting the bowl on the center table. Beast Boy rubbed his nape. "I kinda forgot about it?" He said meekly. Bart glared at him and sighed before once again rushing to the kitchen. He came back with three soda bottles and a stack of plastic cups.

As the Team continues to chat, an emotionless Tigress and a frustrated Batgirl entered the lounge. "You guys ok?" Bumblee Bee asked as she took a bite of her potato chip.

"Do you really have to ask that?" Batgirl said before she and Tigress plopped down on the couch.

"What's wrong?" Superboy asked.

"It's the leads." Tigress replied tiredly.

Bart snickered. "We just entered the new cave and you're worried about leads?" Robin elbowed Bart.

"What about the leads?" The new Boy Wonder said, not taking his eyes of the speedster.

"The leads are weak. I think they will only lead us to dead ends. And also, the Light has been quiet for three months." Batgirl explained as she rubbed her forearm. "I'm getting worried." She added.

Megan put an arm around her. "Don't stress yourself over it Barbara." She said.

"Maybe they already left."

Everyone turned to face Cassie, who shrugged. "What? It was only a suggestion." She explained.

Tigress frowned. "I doubt they would ever leave." She sighed and stood up.

"Where are you going?" Blue Beetle asked.

"I need an alone time." Tigress didn't wait for a reply and left.

They stared at her retreating form before Blue Beetle spoke. "Do you think she will be okay?"

Batgirl stared at her friend. "She will be. Just give her time."

Grotto

Kaldur stared at the holographic image of Tula. He sighed and closed his eyes. It has been more than a year since she died, yet it felt like eternity. His hand traveled to his chest, as if he was preventing it from breaking any further. He clutched his chest as a tear escape his eye.

Pain.

Pain was supposed to make him stronger, but why was it that he felt much weaker, more vulnerable? He wasn't sure what the answer was to his own question— perhaps because the pain was caused by love? Or he was just really weak?

He closed his eyes in frustration. He hated this, hated everything that happened to him and to his friends, hated being weak. More tears escaped his eyes and he stared at the hologram. He was strong, everyone knew that, he knew that. But for now, he realized, was the time to be weak

He snapped out of his reverie when he heard the metallic doors open. He turned around and saw Tigress, a solemn look on her face. "Hello Kaldur." She whispered.

Kaldur didn't say anything and only watched her as she make her way to the holographic image of Wally, the love of her life.

"How are you Artemis?" He asked.

He noticed that she flinched when he called her by her real name. "I'm good." She managed to choke out.

Kaldur stared at her for a few moments before walking towards her. When he reached her, he touched her shoulder in a brotherly manner. "I know you are strong Artemis, but being strong does not mean holding the tears back. Being strong means letting the tears fall and learning to move on."

Artemis stared at Kaldur for a few moments before breaking down. She buried her head on his chest and sobbed uncontrollably. Kaldur held her and cried with her too. "Why, Kaldur? Why did he have to die?" She said in between sobs. Kaldur played with her hair, not saying anything. "I love him, I love him... Why did he have to die?" Kaldur's embrace tightened. "Let it out, just let it all out." He murmured.

—and she did.

Apokalips Training Room

"Will you calm down?!" A big, buff girl clad in red and yellow jumpsuit armor exclaimed as she block the powerful punches and kicks of her blonde teammate. Her teammate though, didn't seem to hear her and continued her assaults with much more power than before. With one, powerful roundhouse kick, she sent the buff girl flying for a few meters away from her.

The buff girl banged her clenched fist to the floor and stared at her teammate with annoyance. "What's the big deal, Gilotina?! We've been at this for hours!" she yelled as she stood up.

Gilotina didn't speak and started to stride towards her.

"You're going to kill Stompa at that rate Blondie." A new voice said.

Gilotina's stare went to a girl, sitting silently on the bench, her legs and arms crossed.

"Shut it Lashina." Gilotina said in a hushed tone.

Lashina raised her eyebrow at her teammate. "I still don't understand why you're still upset."

"You don't know?!" Gilotina yelled as she turned her whole body to face the long, ebony haired girl.

Lashina, on the other hand, just stared at her comrade indifferently. She uncrossed her arms and legs. She stood up and adjusted the metal strips on her left shoulder.

Gilotina felt her temper rise. "Aren't you going to answer me?" she sneered.

"Stop nagging, Gilotina. It wasn't just you that went down a while ago."

The three girls whipped their heads to the door, where two new girls stood with scowls on their faces.

Mad Harriet, the one who spoke, was a green haired cackling mad woman. She jumped and settled herself on top of a table.

"You are not going to deny that, are you?" she added in a mocking tone.

A gust of wind suddenly passed Gilotina. The blonde girl whirled and saw the source of the wind helping Stompa with her bruises.

"Geez Gilo! I know you're a ticking bomb when angry but this is just—" The Speed Queen trailed off as she stared at Stompa's bruises, hands on her hips.

Gilotina growled. She could feel her shoulders shaking and all she could see was red. She wanted to rip the heads of these people. She wanted to tear them limb from limb.

How can they not understand her anger?!

A loud sigh broke everyone's trance. They all looked at Lashina, who was pinching the bridge of her nose in between her thumb and middle finger.

"Listen, I know that we all have— resentment towards her—"

Mad Harriet chuckled at Lashina's words, but then stopped when she saw Stompa's glare.

"— but I'm afraid to say that we can't do anything about it—"

"We already acknowledged that bull—"

"Gilo!"

"Stop it you—"

"Hahahaha! Now this—"

All the murmurs of the girls were cut off by the crack of Lashina's metallic whip and the wall breaking. They all turned to her wide eye when they saw the dent Lashina's whip made.

"— can't do anything about it but accept the fact. We will gain nothing from resenting her." Lashina finished with a hiss.

Mad Harriet did a somersault before landing gracefully on the ground. "Why not kill her? That is a logical thing to do, right?"

Stompa let out a huff of breath. "It's easy if Granny and the Lord aren't on her side." She said.

All fell silent. It was true. Ever since she came into the picture everything they knew crashed down. Their mentor, Granny Goodness, would always compare their skills with hers and just how far she was ahead of them. During trainings, they would always go one-on-one with her and would end up getting defeated.

They hadn't heard anything from their Lord though. But the fact that he appointed her as his personal guard was enough for them to know what he was thinking.

They didn't know how she got here, or when she got here. All they remember was that they were training one day and Granny came to them with her.

They thought she would be a great addition to the team— the Furies, but they were wrong.

She was their downfall.

Before anyone could say anything, there was a soldier came to Lashina.

"Fury Lashina, Madam Granny requested for your and Gilotina's presence at her office." The soldier said. (1)

Lashina nodded and glanced at Gilotina. "Let's go."

Gilotina snorted but complied.

They walked in silence— a very uncomfortable and deafening silence. Once they reached Granny Goodness's office, the soldier knocked on the door. "Madam Granny, they are here."

A muffled 'come in' was heard and the soldier opened the door. Gilotina and Lashina went in but froze when they saw her leaning on the wall. "Lashina, Gilotina, I'm waiting." Granny said, her eyes never leaving the set of papers in her hand. The two Furies stared at each other before stepping further into the room. They walked towards Granny's table but their eyes are on her, never once leaving her form.

"You called us Granny?" Gilotina asked, emphasizing on the word 'us'.

Granny Goodness set the papers down and glanced at them. "You three-" she motioned them one by one "-are asked to accompany Lord Darkseid on his business later."

Gilotina and Lashina raised an eyebrow while she just stood there. "Did Lord Darkseid say any reason for us to accompany him?" It was Lashina's turn to ask.

Granny shook her head. "The reason is unknown. But he said that you will leave soon. So be ready in ten. Meeting place: Throne room." She simply said and lifted the set of papers after. "You may go." The Furies nodded in understanding and left the room.

Two of the Furies stared at the door while the other one was already making her way to her quarters. "Why do you think we'll be accompanying the Lord, Gilotina?" Lashina asked.

"I don't know, probably because someone can't do their job right." The blonde said and turned her head towards the silent Fury. "What do you think Gem?" She suddenly called out.

'Gem' stopped, but made no movement of turning to face them. The two Furies waited for her to do something, but eventually, Lashina spoke. "Did the you know about the Lord's business?" They waited for an answer for a few moments before Gem shrugged and continued to walk away.

Gilotina clenched her fist and was about to punched the wall. Luckily, Lashina caught her wrist with the same strength Gilotina has in store.

"Don't." She said to her.

Gilotina glared at her before pulling away her wrist and stared at the path where Gem disappeared.

"She'll fall down someday." Gilotina whispered before leaving with Lashina to get ready.
