There Goes My Life-Kenny Chesney

A Mandy song fic

All he could think about was I'm too young for this.

Got my whole life ahead.

Hell I'm just a kid myself.

How'm I gonna raise one.

Eighteen year old, Martin Brewer sat in the hospital room for what seemed like year, what started out as a innocent night together had ended up changing both their life's forever. He wanted to play baseball, in the majors and go to college. He wanted to wait 5 or so years before he got married and settle down. So much for that. He was about to be a father, Sandy was in the room right now..he could not bring himself to be in their with her. All he could think about was how this little girl is going to ruin his plans, his future.

All he could see were his dreams goin' up in smoke.

So much for ditchin' this town and hangin' out on the coast.

Oh well, those plans are long gone.

A nurse's voice pulled him from his thoughts, "You are a father to a baby girl" she told him. Martin nodded and as he headed in one thought rolled through his head...

Chorus:

And he said,

There goes my life.

There goes my future, my everything.

Might as well kiss it all good-bye.

There goes my life...

Times had changed since that day the hospital, Martin was now 23 and had changed thousands of diapers and would not change it for anything. As he went to get a water out of the fridge he couln't help but smile. Three years of pictures filled the door. That little girl was everything to him, he wouldn't change his life with little Ashley or his her mom, his wife Sandy for anything.

A couple years of up all night and a few thousand diapers later.

That mistake he thought he made covers up the refrigerator.

Oh yeah...he loves that little girl.

Momma's waiting to tuck her in,

As she fumbles up those stairs.

She smiles back at him dragging that teddy bear.

Sleep tight, blue eyes and bouncing' curls.

Martin thought for a moment as he smiled at her as she was making her way to bed, that little girl truly was his life he thought back to that day at the hospital, his dreams of baseball were changed to diapers and he was perfectly fine with that.

Chorus:

He smiles...

There goes my life.

There goes my future, my everything.

I love you, daddy goodnight.

There goes my life.

Well years past and dolls, makeup, boys and graduation came and went. She was all grown up. Her and her boyfriend of 4 years were headed off to college in the west. She had gown up way to fast Martin thought, now it was finally time to say good bye. The smile she gave them, let him and Sandy know that she loved them and would be back. She put her hot pink luggage set filled with clothes and shoes in her honda element and sighed before closing it.

"I love you baby." Martin said hugging her.

"I love you too Daddy." She said hugging him back before hugging her mother and getting in the drivers side and driving west on life's journey.

She had that Honda loaded down.

With Abercrombie clothes and 15 pairs of shoes and his American Express.

He checked the oil and slammed the hood, said you're good to go.

She hugged them both and headed off to the West Coast.

As he watched her go he thought back on the past 19 years, and he knew for a fact that that girl was his life. He only hoped she would have the kind of life he did. He then thought back to the day she was born, how selfish he had been thinking baseball was his future, his true future, life and everything. He knew now that his future, life and everything was Ashley Marie Brewer.

Chorus:

And he cried,

There goes my life.

There goes my future, my everything.

I love you.

Baby good-bye.

And he loves his daughter who is now a woman with all his heart.

There goes my life.

There goes my life.

Baby good-bye.
