"What's wrong Katniss?" Prim asked, seeing me crying while sitting at the kitchen table.
"Oh, nothing Prim." I replied.
"I don't like seeing you like this. Do you promise you'll smile more? Do you promise Katniss?" She asked, looking in my eyes with hope shining in her blue ones. Her head, which had been bald for weeks, had blonde peach fuzz growing on it.
"Of course, little duck, I promise." I said, reaching over and hugging her.
[Two Weeks Later]
"Okay, Katniss, you can do this. Come on!" I growled, leaning on the sink in the bathroom and looking into the mirror. Slowly, a small, hesitant smile spread across my face. "That's better."
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed the primrose lying on the counter and made my way outside. While I was walking down the street with the small smile on my face and the flower in my hand, I could hear the people around me whispering.
"What's with that weirdo smiling?" One person said.
"Ugh I don't know." His friend replied.
"Better watch out, she could be one of those creepy people from the news." The first guy said. His friend laughed. But I just kept walking, determined to keep smiling.
When I reached my destination, I laid the primrose down as a single tear trailed down my cheek.
"Okay, Prim, like I promised..." Another tear followed. "I have kept smiling..." My smile changed from the cheerful one I tried to keep up to a small, sad one.
I kneeled down on one knee and looked at the smooth marble stone with the words 'Primrose Everdeen, 2006-2013, "A tiny angel"' was engraved.
"I've kept smiling, princess."
