Gods Eater RE:burst – Explanation (Sort of)
Cities demolished; holes the size of meteor craters carved into every building. How some of them still stand is a mystery. Grasslands flourishing with plants and flowers were reduced to barren grounds with not even a shred of appealing greenery. Temples and subways were abandoned; citizens running for their lives only to be gobbled up by another beast from around the corner. Then there was the Island. Aegis Island, to be more specific. Home of the Aegis Project, said to at prolong humanity for at least two or three decades.
Their nickname: Aragami. They're what scientists and cultists envision as "the gods." They devour anything, ranging from buildings to even their own kind. They devour to learn; every piece chewed up and swallowed providing them with more knowledge, thus, speeding them along their evolutionary path. With the world's sudden destruction, humans barely get by; as they are picked off one by one.
Mankind's last hope: Fenrir. That task force that smites down Aragami. Aragami are made up of Oracle Cells. Conventional weapons aren't even remotely useful and simply just enrage them. However, someone thought, "What if we fight fire with fire?" Thus, the age of the Gods Eaters was born.
To injure an Aragami, you must disrupt their Oracle Cells with another pair of Oracle Cells. By creating weapons infused with said Cells, humans could fight back. Although the number of Aragami is drastic, humans still struggle to stand upon the rotted soil left behind by the Aragami's outbreak.
These weapons: God Arcs. To use an Arc, you must be a match. Not only that, but you must willingly inject yourself with Bias Factor, allegedly injecting yourself with controlled Aragami Oracle Cells and a transformation. Only then, will a matching person and God Arc be able to synchronize. Once you've picked up an Arc, there's no going back.
With that bulky red and black band on your arm, you are administered as a Gods Eater, effective immediately.
As such, the generation of Gods Eaters has only been populated by Old-Types. Old-types are what Fenrir officials call Gods Eaters that specialize in either melee or ranged combat. A bladed God Arc is equipped with a deployable shield, and is also able to devour parts of an Aragami. A ranged God Arc is able to fire Oracle Bullets. Devouring is essential to defeating an Aragami, as its core will rapidly rejuvenate its body to protect itself. To put it simply: the only way to kill an Aragami, is detach its core from its host body.
However, now the name has a real differentiating meaning. Why stop at Arcs that limit a Gods Eater to one form of combat? Thus, New-types came along. New-types are Gods Eaters that hold an Arc capable of shifting between blade and ranged form. However, because removing Bias Factor from the body is impossible, only new coming Gods Eaters are able to be tested for a New-type God Arc match.
Gods Eaters, the ones who protect humanity from extinction. Although reckless, it shows that humanity won't easily sit back and wait for the end in this cycle of carnage.
Gods will fall. Humanity will rise.
