Hermione gripped the letter tightly in her hand. She had left him a couple of times before, and now she decided-realized rather-that she couldn't stand to be apart from him. She handed the letter to Artemis and watched as the owl flew into the sunset.
It was dinner in the Great Hall when Artemis landed in front of the dour Potions Master. His eyes betrayed a flicker of surprise and hope when he recognized the tawny owl. Pocketing the letter, he headed for his office in the dungeons.
Back in her flat, Hermione silently began packing her things. Even if Severus drove her away, Dumbledore had offered her the Charms post. She would be back in Hogwarts whether her lover liked it or not.
The Potions Master breathlessly sat in his chair and his heart beat furiously as he tore open the parchment with Hermione's neat, familiar scrawl.
Dearest Severus,
I know that I have hurt you many times by leaving you with no due explanation. I hope you understand the pain that I went through those times. I needed some space, some place where I could breathe freely without the interference of others. Somewhere I could think about my feelings for you.
Severus, my love, I don't know if you are still willing to embrace and accept me in your arms. But I want you to know that I have always been faithful to you. I cannot bear to betray you or to throw away our relationship for some cretin I find in the streets.
My decision is final, Severus. I want to come home. I want to spend eternity with you, even if it takes me a hundred years. I want to feel your touch once again. I want to wake up in the mornings beside you, reveling in your glorious presence, and go to bed with your comforting arms around me.
Please do not take away from me this only thing that I ask.

It took him less than a minute to find his witch and bring her to the place she so wanted to be.
