Delaware: The First State

Ever are you to be so easily forgotten?
Launch pumpkins we do at empty fields
Always with catapult, trebuchet, and air gun
Was it not John Hancock to first sign the document for our country's independence?
Audacity was Hancock's to write his name so large for England's King to see
Right in the middle we were for slavery, civil war, and industry
Even our neighbors cannot find us now.
That we have no national park or monument
How could it matter so much?
Every summer, our state fair stands tall
Fireworks and Ferris wheels to ride all day and night
Into corn fields we go to hunt a deer
Rednecks, most say, live in this small state
So say it is true, that some of our kind be that
To ignore that we grow?
Soon an island we will be
Turn to the beaches that line our coast
Always crowded with life be it people or animals
Though we have litter to offer in culture
Everyone there is a character in our small towns
