Prologue: New Beginnings

There it stood in the distance, through the fog and mist of night. Hogwarts, the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, home to one of the greatest wizards and headmasters of this age, Albus Dumbledore. "These are dark days Minerva" he said, pacing up and down his own quarters. The office was a magnificent shade of emerald green, with shades of yellow light dotted all about the room. This was, of course, the magical work of the headmaster himself. He passed his own solid gold chair behind his large desk and cast his eyes above and behind, towards the several portraits of former headmasters. He watched as they strode from image to image, freely between each frame.

"I know Albus, but there isn't much we can do to help the Ministry from here inside the castle, after all, it was us, as a school who are partly responsible for the rise of You-Know-Who as it was us who taught You-Know-Who everything he knows." answered McGonagall.

"I am aware professor, but I am one of only two wizards Lord Voldemort fears because I know how to defeat him, and he knows this." At this point, Professor McGonagall noticed that the headmaster had been fiddling with a strange looking object for some time. Dumbledore steadily walked towards his chair, studying the rather small and dark gem in his palm. The headmaster fell into his chair as if in a trance, which was only broken by more questions from his counterpart.

"You say you are only one of two wizards who know how to defeat You-Know-Who Albus? Who is the other wizard? We may be able to rally them to our cause!"

You will meet this wizard at the right time and the right time only professor. I am afraid that I cannot give any names Minerva, I am sorry." Dumbledore fell silent for a few moments deep in thought until, "I can tell you this though Minerva…He is a Dark Wizard catcher, an Auror. The ministry have put him in charge of finding Lord Voldemort-"

"Please don't say his name Albus!" Interrupted McGonagall.

"And to either kill the 'Dark Lord' or bring him into the ministry for a fair trial, so as I said before, you are bound to meet our friend one day Minerva." Finished the headmaster. McGonagall was pacing frantically up and down, fiddling with her wand which was emitting red sparks at the tip, showing her apparent disapproval and disgust.

"A FAIR TRIAL! FAIR TRAIL! For everything he has done he doesn't deserve the time or effort, he should be killed as soon as anyone has the chance and they should be considered a hero!" raged McGonagall. McGonagall calmed slightly and asked "What is that that you are holding Albus? It's dark but somehow makes me feel, lighter, happier, just by seeing it."

"This Minerva, is the Gem of Love. The power of love will play a big part in our encounters with Voldemort, I can feel it" Answered the Hogwarts headmaster, power resonating through his voice.

"Please, Albus, don't say his name…"
