The news of Echo's body being found dead in the forest was spread all throughout Mt. Olympus, as well as the lands surrounding it. Whispers lightly feathered the otherwise silent throne room of Zeus. Echo had died of a broken heart. The only being not quietly discussing Echo's death was Narcissus, one of the people who could be held responsible for her death. He, however, was clueless about her and her passing. He was pretty much clueless about anything other than how beautiful he was.
Zeus sat, thinking about Narcissus, with rage coursing into every vein in his body. He wanted to go and locate him, and seize him on the spot. Zeus wanted to put every single speck of blame for Echo's death on that horrible, conceited man. He wanted Narcissus to pay, to be tortured, with no decrescendo to the pain. Narcissus didn't deserve any of the love that Echo continuously showered him with, She nurtured Narcissus, and when times got tough, she made sure he always had plenty to eat. Even if it meant going hungry herself, for weeks on end.. She always made sure he was completely in good health.
Zeus laughed bitterly to himself. How could anyone thatin love with himself be called healthy? He had to be honest with himself, though. This wasn't only about Narcissus's ungratefulness, Oh, no. Truth was, Zeus happened to be in love with Echo. She was always so happy. Graceful too. Oh, how he loved to watch her dance and sing. That's the only way she ever walked or talked. He enjoyed walks in the forests, to find Echo being her usual dainty self, and also talking up a storm with anyone she found. That was one of the many reasons why he loved her, she could converse with any being, using no effort what-so-ever. Unfortunately this same gift led to her end, in a was at least. He absolutely loved the look on Hera's face when Echo struck up a conversation with her. Hera completely despised socializing with anyone other than Hades, lord of the Underworld. However, Hera wasn't one to be fooled that easily. She figured out Zeus and Echo's scheme almost immediately. All it took was one glance towards the forests, where Zeus could easily be spotted chasing around Echo's sisters, flirting with, and teasing them. Hera grew infuriated, and placed Echo under a powerful curse that would forever rid Mt. Olympus of her ridiculous chatter. This curse is also how Echo was given her name. You see, Hera made it so Echo couldn't say anything except the last thing that was said to her. Hence the name Echo. When Zeus heard about it, he begged and pleaded with Hera to remove it. After all, it was his fault that the curse was placed on her in the first place. However, Hera was deeply hurt by her husband's adulterous ways, and wanted to make him pay. She knew very well how much Zeus was in love with Echo, and she planned to use this knowledge to her advantage.
Ever since then, the entire empire of Mt. Olympus was shaded with a veil of sadness. That sadness increased terribly on this tragic day. Zeus noticed that all the nymphs were gathered in a corner. They were shooting Zeus and Hera fiery glances of pure hatred. Their eyes were swollen and red, with tears still streaming down their beautiful faces. He wanted to cry right along with them, he wanted to scream her name, and run down to the Underwor- Wait! That was it! He quickly thought of a way to get down to Hades' world. If his son Hercules could do it, why couldn't he? "Hermes, come forth at once!"
