Birthday Treat

"Aang?" Katara called out, standing on a balcony to get a better view of the grounds, her folded hands resting on the wall.

They were at the Southern Air Temple, it was winter, and the Water Tribe girl couldn't find her boyfriend anywhere. She'd already checked several rooms inside the temple, the sanctuary, even the Bison pens and Air Ball court, but Aang wasn't in any of those places.

She called his name again, this time louder, but received no answer.

I wonder where he went, she thought to herself, resting her chin on her folded hands; she closed her eyes. He better be okay…

She must've dozed for a bit, because when Aang shouted her name Katara jumped up in surprise, gave a little yelp.

"Sorry," the young Avatar said, "I didn't mean to startle you." He was standing by the stairs, a worried look on his face.

Katara stood up straight, shook her head, "you didn't," she lied.

Aang tilted his head slightly to the side, gave her a look that challenged her reply, but then shrugged, showing that he'd drop it.

"So…where have you been? You disappeared after lunch."

Then came the goofy, wide grin and twinkling grey eyes, filled with mischief.

"Come here, I want to show you something," her boyfriend said, completely ignoring the question.

Katara, after giving the Airbender a cautious look for a moment or two, walked down the stairs to stand before the still grinning goof ball; even after two years, even with all the stuff they'd been through, and his sometimes stressful work as World Peace Keeper…Aang still had his silly, childish side. Said goof ball took her hand and led the way to one of the courtyards.

Just before they turned the corner to enter, the Avatar stopped, turned to his girlfriend and chastely kissed her. Then, before she could react, Aang flew up to land behind her and covered Katara's eyes with his hands, started moving her forward.

"Aang, what are you doing!" needless to say that the Waterbender was a bit shocked by his actions.

"You'll find out in a little bit," was her answer, the Airbender chuckling slightly.

It wasn't twenty secounds before the hands were removed from her eyes and Katara was standing amidst lanterns and crystal Water Lilies in beautifully carved bowls full of water, a rather large box, made of ice, stood off to the side; the fading sun of evening caused the sky to turn various shades of pink and purple and blue.

"A-Aang…what is this?" her voice came out in a stunned whisper and she looked at him with large eyes.

He smiled, "there's more," was all he said, before going to the box, opening it and taking out two bowls, one in each hand.

Aang grinned, chuckled again as he watched her expression; walking back to her, the Airbender handed her one of the bowls.

Taking it, she asked, "what is this?"

"Creamed ice, it's made with Lakmene milk, Lemberries, and a few drops of snow; you slightly freeze it over to get this texture." He took a small bight, smiled at the taste and told her to try some.

She did and smiled up at him, "it's good!" she took a few more bites.

Aang watched her eat for a few minutes, before kissing her on the cheek, "Happy Birthday, my Water Tribe princess."

They finished their treat, one sighing dreamily after almost every bite, the other blushing.

Notes: Lekmene and Lemberries, are made up fruit; Lekmene is about as big as a grapefuit and has milk inside of it, like a coconut and Lemberries are berries that grow in the winter and taste better than Strawberries. :)
