"No Sandra I'm not going with you to the butterfly house you know how I feel about butterflies" Gerry tells me as we approach the butterfly house. It's not really the normal kind of thing we spend our weekends doing, usually we spend them in bed trying to forget the horrors of the week. This weekend is different though, me and Gerry have been together a while now and it was supposed to be our 6 month anniversary but Paula is getting married on Friday so we said we'd look after Gerry Jr while she finished preparation.
We've know gone through most of this animal centre type thing without any problems but now it's the butterfly house. Gerry hates butterflies he won't tell me why but I think it's linked to his fear of woods, which he also won't tell me why. I'll bully it out of him one day.
"Gerry there's no other way out and you know little Gerry's been desperate to see them as he's doing a school project on them."
"You're capable of taking him in, he loves you like a grandmother." I shoot evils at him and he rethinks what he was about to say. "You take Gerry round in there and I'll figure another way out." I don't have time to disagree as little Gerry takes my hand and pulls me into the butterfly house and bigger Gerry waves before heading off to God knows where.
"Look at that butterfly Sandra, it's landed on that boys hand."
"So it has, I bet if you stayed really still and quiet one would land on you too!"
"You really think?"
"Yep." He's done as I suggested and he's concentrating so hard on not moving and keeping quiet and sure enough as I said a small yellow butterfly has perched on the end of his finger. Gerry Jr hasn't said a word but I can tell by his facial expression that's he overjoyed and wants a picture to show his granddad and put in his project.
"So did you learn all about butterflies then Gerry?" Bigger Gerry asked little Gerry.
"Yes Grandad! I loved them! One landed on my finger and Sandra took a picture! My favourite was the patterned caterpillars!" Gerry told him excitedly while pausing for breaths between each statement. Yet again I shoot evils at Gerry, as much as I love Gerry Jr his grandad should know by now he's not to leave me with him until he's got to know me better but that conversations for later.
