"FINNICK ODAIR! FINNICK ODAIR!"

The cry ran through the streets of district 4.

Somewhere in district 4, a young girl woke up and went to check on her ailing mother.

"Annie you should be going to school not looking after your old mommy."

"Sorry mom but you are the bigger priority." Said Annie, a girl of just eleven.

Annie had been told she was pretty. She had brown hair than ran till the end of her back. She liked to tie it in a braid as it troubled her in her daily chores. Her blue eyes were nothing new in district 4 as almost everyone had blue or green eyes. But she had this intimidating look that made people notice her. Her skin was slightly tanned from swimming almost every day.

Annie's family belonged to the lowest rung of the social ladder in district the district was in better conditions compared to a few other districts, Annie's father had faced great losses during the time of the drought. Her father had been in dept to a big moneylender in that time as he was a simple fisherman and did not work for any company as such. In district 4 only working for a private fishing company would give you pay during times of droughts. Her father could not get a job in such a company as he lacked some education requirements for a job.

Her father had died soon after the drought leaving Annie fatherless and to care for her mother who was suffering from cancer. Annie often wondered why the Capitol spent money on Hunger Games and other such nonsense instead of finding a cure for cancer.

Annie after changing the cloth on her mother's forehead went and woke up her brother Gilbert. Gilbert was still small and was only six. Gilbert ran towards the television which was their only pricely possession. It was smaller than the ones used in other houses.

"Today the winners will be announced!" said Gilbert.

"You should not watch all that blood nonsense." Said Annie trying to prevent her brother from switching on the TV.

Gilbert being small slipped out of his sister's hands and switched on the TV.

"Whoo hoo! District 4 won!" said Gilbert.

"What!" said Annie suddenly interested.

On the television a presenter was announcing the results.

"Last night, Finnick Odair, the tribute from District 4 won the 64th Hunger Games!" said the presenter.

A picture of a teenager of about 14 flashed on the screen. Finnick Odair thought Annie. He was very handsome with bronze skin and hair that swept all over his face.

This guy was lucky thought Annie. Footages on the TV showed that the boy was quite good with the trident, the traditional weapon of all District 4 tributes.

Annie tied her hair in a braid and started getting ready for her daily job as an assistant on a fishing ship. This job was giving her enough money to help raise the family.

"I hope Finnick makes them give supplies to all the families who are suffering because of the droughts."

This was Annie's only thought as she left to work.
