"fire is life, mako," she breathes, and as he sees her eyes sparkle prettyforestemerald green, all he can think is no, it's not.
earth is life. earth supports plants, which support animals, which support people. fire destroys; life and love and everything that is worth caring for.
{he knows that all too well}
and, as he brings the flame forth and stares into its incandescent depths, he can't believe that his mother ever thought he was meant for anything but destruction.
bolin is sweet and caring and kind and sweet and caring and he can't believe that someone so perfectly built to wield earth looks up to him.
because all he's ever done is destroy, destroy, destroy; with his cold heart and aloof eyes and fire that burns so warmly while stabbing you in the back.
{he thinks he's heard of blue fire, somewhere}
the tattered edge of his scarf is all he has left, and sometimes he thinks it's too much. de doesn't deserve something to remember them by, not when bolin gets nothing.
there may be a way to fix the broken; to mend cracks and patch holes and glue together pieces, but you cannot fix something when all that's left is a pile of rubble and ashes, ashes.
{dead people are ashes, too}
maybe he's insane, like the infamous-because-no-one-talks-about-her fire princess, who was eaten away by the desire to raze the world to ground and crumble society to ashes, ashes.
maybe he has no right to even bend, because bending is the good side and he's anything but good, because his heart is made of stone and stone is earth and earth is just another thing that can be destroyed by fire.
{he killed his parents, you know}
[a/n] because, if i haven't mentioned before, capital letters are overrated.
I really do think that Mako had the potential to kill his parents, and that it drove him (and, by default, Bolin) crazy during the early days. Of course, finding Pabu and getting into a routine of steal-run-eat-sleep may have helped matters, but I truly think that canon!Mako is crazy on the inside.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading :)
