Prologue
Seth knew he shouldn't be going to see Vanessa, But he couldn't help it. He had been seeing friends from Fablehaven in his town. Doren said 'hi' in the halls last week, and he could have sworn he saw Maddox in the deli across the street from the taxidermist. Kendra admitted to seeing a man, very tall and strong, who looked like Hugo go into the library. Newel and Lena, he had seen many times at the park.
Chapter 1
Life had been incredibly Boring since Kendra and Seth had left Grandma and Grandpa Morrison. Seth had loved the mystical life, and hadn't gotten used to boring old civilian life. Kendra had gotten used to life, going back to being obsessed with boys,clothes, and whatever else Kendra did. Seth did love his computer, but football wasn't the same. It reminded Seth of Bracken,the big brother Seth never had. Bracken was the only 'good guy' Seth hadn't seen yet.
So, Seth had contacted Vanessa. He would never forget the phone number on that blue piece of paper Vanessa had tucked in his hand. She kissed his cheek, and whispered in Seth's ear "For emergencies". The paper seemed to be undamageable. He had poured water,soda, and even lemon juice on the paper, but the paper hadn't even gotten damp. One of the bullies in class had even ripped the paper up. 5 minutes later, the paper pieces formed together again.
Vanessa had told Seth to meet her at an abandoned farm, two miles away. Kendra and his parents were doing yoga, which they did for 2 hours every wednesday evening.
