Disclaimer: Though I have loved Haku since I was seven years old, he belongs to Chihiro, not me.
This was actually meant to be a whole story, but it was one of those incomplete ones that sat festering on my writing doc. I was cleaning it up today, and found this, and it actually seemed like good stuff for a one-shot. So here it is.
~Aerith-chan
The white dragon was always twisting through the black clouds at the edges of her subconscience. And she was always chasing after him, calling his name and begging him to stop. But what was different about this time was that she caught up to him. Rather, he waited for her; she could never have caught up to him, even in her dreams.
He was standing in the middle of the field where they had parted, mane windblown and tangled as he motionlessly watched her run towards him. She never tore her gaze from his...she had missed that feeling of a green laser beam piercing her heart more than she'd ever admit to anyone.
She slowly came to a stop as she approached him, not sure what to say after six years apart. Was there anything, really? Were there the proper words to express what she felt? I've missed you so much...however true it may be, she somehow couldn't bring herself to say it. It just wasn't her, and he would know...he knew her better than anybody. Where have you been? No, too rude. It wasn't his fault.
I love you?
She knew she didn't need to say that. They both knew it already.
All Chihiro could whisper was, as she tentatively reached out a hand to caress his head, "Hello, Haku."
