Percy,

WHERE ARE YOU

Gods, I've missed you

Please come back to me

Please

Annabeth sighed. She took one look at the letter in her hand, then crumpled it up and let it join its cousins in the ever-growing pile near the edge of her desk. Her pen…was on the floor. She looked at it hard, wishing for the three-hundredth time that it was Riptide, and any moment now Percy would be knocking on the door asking if Annabeth could please give that back, it was his and he needed it, and she would throw her arms around him.

Percy,

She stopped writing again. That was all she needed to write…as long as he was the one to hear it.

A fat, wet teardrop rolled down her face and splattered the careful black ink, smudging it to the point of illegibility. Angrily, she balled up the paper and threw it against the wall. It bounced off and rolled back to her, as if it was saying 'Please don't give up on me.'

She opened it, but the writing was still just a blob of watery ink-and-saltwater.

Percy,

We've been looking all over for you since the night you left

You never said goodbye, Percy

Malcolm opened the door to find Annabeth in the middle of a full-out sobfest on her bed. Quietly, he ushered the other Athenas out until she calmed down. Annabeth feeling any strong emotion is NOT something anyone wants to mess with.

Percy,

Remember that night when we talked about California? How I told you that there was monsters, and you said we'd be fine if we had a lot of weapons, and

She was thinking about going back to see her dad and step-mom, and Percy wanted to come with her.

"I've never met your parents."

"Yes you have."

He had grinned. "Well, not as your boyfriend."

That word had still felt alien in her mouth- boyfriend. Anytime she had thought about it otherwise, the word had been attached to a certain Luke Castellan. But now- Percy Jackson, Son of Posiedon, Savior of Olympus, Annabeth's Boyfriend- it was still a lot to take in.

Percy,

Remember when we kissed in the canoe lake?

It's getting fuzzy for me.

WHERE ARE YOU

I need you

She remembered him, talking about their future. She remembered him, that determined look he got on his face whenever he was fighting, or angry. She remembered the way one eye closed more than the other when he smiled. She remembered him- but the canoe lake was fading. A kiss like a brush of butterfly wings, a underwater laugh. The set of green eyes glowing like emeralds in the darkness, shining with excitement. His hands on her face.

But he was gone.

Percy,

Do you remember our kiss on the canoe lake? For me, it's fading away. Percy, you're all I've ever wanted, all I've ever needed. I wish you were with me now. You never even said goodbye. And do you remember that time when we talked about our future, moving to some little ocean town in California just because you wanted me to be near family? Now that's the only place I can think about. What if you're waiting for me- an embrace to come, the hearts to reunite? What if there's something here I'm missing?

Well, of course there is. It's you.

I love you, and I always will. I don't care if you're not here to hear it from me, but you had better believe it. Percy, you're my everything, and I don't want to see you go- or to have you vanish without a star in the night to tell me you're gone.

Where are you, Percy?

I hope you remember me, Percy. Because right now, all I can remember is you.

-Annabeth Chase
