O, The Agony
A "Clockwork Orange" Poem
AUTHOR'S NOTES: After watching "A Clockwork Orange" on TV for the first time last December (which, I will admit, was pretty cool, even if I already have the DVD), I was inspired to write this poem, told from Alex's perspective during one of the final scenes. I do hope you enjoy it, & feel free to leave feedback.
Light is breaking, body aching,
Vision swirling all around.
Music blasting through the floor, crashing
'Gainst my eardrums with an awful sound!
Familiar strains of a song by Ludwig Van
Are coming from the floor below,
Filling me with pain & sickness,
Such as never I have known!
Head is pounding, heartbeat sounding
Like the beating of a drum.
Body throbbing, I start sobbing,
Begging for relief to come!
The song keeps going, pain keeps growing,
With no--stop!--no end in sight.
Nausea fills me with a queasy
Feeling far from sweet delight!
I try to block that dreaded music,
But ignore it, I cannot.
It seems all I can do is suffer
In my pain & agony.
O, the pain!
O, the agony!
And, then,
I see An open window
Leading to the world outside!
I open my eyes, & slowly rise,
Then walk o'er to the window ledge.
I climb on top, then make a jump
Out of the house,
And go a-tumbling
Through the skies
Until I hit the ground...
Song is ending, mind is mending
After all the hell I have gone through.
Blackness fills my world, & I begin to fill at peace,
For all that pain & sickness is no more!
