All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy

but all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul

Duncan was on his way home from work one Sunday evening. As he was about to turn his cell phone went off. "Hello?" he said. "Duncan baby you promised you would come to church with us." "Courtney honey you know that I sometimes have to work late. I'll be there next time I promise."

Not this time son, I've no time to waste

maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play

"Daddy will you play frisbee with me?" asked David. "Sorry, sport, I can't. I have to be at a meeting in 15 minutes and I haven't had time to shower yet. Maybe I'll be able to play frisbee with you another day. Maybe tomorrow." "You never have time for us anymore!" David whined.

Then he slips into his new BMW

and drives farther and farther and farther away

Duncan replied "Son, you know that I have to go to a lot of meetings. And if I don't show up, I could lose my job!" Then he got into his car that he had just bought the week before. And he drove to his meeting.

He works all day and tries to sleep at night

he tells them things will get better, better in time

After he got home from his meeting, he was met by Courtney. "Duncan, we need to talk." "What's this about, princess?" "You're always at meetings and stuff and I'm starting to feel like you don't care about me." "Princess, of course I care about you. And I work a lot so I can give David a better life than I had growing up."

Well this American Dream

is beginning to seem

more and more like a nightmare with every passing day

"Daddy can you come to my game?" "Oh, baby, please don't work late."

another wasted weekend and they are slipping away

Day after day, week after week, it was the same routine. Get up, get dressed, eat, go to work, try to sleep at night, and repeat. "Dad, my team is playing against the Eagles tomorrow. Can you be there pretty please?" asked David. "Sorry sport. Thursday is the day I go to meetings." "Duncan, honey, you never have time for me, or David, anymore."

He works all day and lies awake at night

He tells them things will get better, just take a little more time

Week after week, he worked and worked. He didn't seem to care about his son or his wife. Whenever he wasn't at work, he was at a meeting, or working some more online.

~A few more years down the road~

"That's it Duncan! If you aren't gonna spend time with us, then I want a divorce!"

Now he works all day and cries alone at night

It's not getting any better, looks like he's running out of time

"How stupid of her to divorce me like that. Doesn't she know that I only worked all the time so I could buy her and David the things they deserve?" Duncan thought.
