This fic is my alternative to when Catherine says "it's a date" when Vincent offers for her to spend her Birthday Evening with them (Episode: "Saturn Returns") because Lord knows I very much did not like how she backed out of that…
I Don't Want To
"So, you're offering me a night free of lies?"
"Yep… so I'll pick you up at 8?" He looked at me.
I smiled back and said, "it's a date."
Oh shit. He looked up at me, shocked. Well, too late to take it back now… not that I want to, thinking back on it.
He was silent, waiting for me to take it back. I looked straight into his eyes, silently telling him I wasn't going to take it back. After a while, he spoke.
"Catherine… you don't have to…"
I cut in, "But I want to, Vincent." I walked closer to him and laid my hand on his arm. He watched me, warily but hopeful. I smiled, hoping to ease his worry. "There is… something between us, and if you want, I would much rather call tonight a 'date'… unless that makes you uncomfortable?" I left him that out, if he wanted it.
He looked at my hand on his arm for a while. Then he covered my hand with mine, and looked up at me with a small, hopeful smile.
"It's a date."
