Nate River is an average fifteen year old boy, with a twin brother, and a constant standard above his head to be perfect. He kept up with everything that he could, covering up the things he couldn't do. Things like be normal, and fit in, and have friends. He sat at a lunch table alone. Four other chairs surround him, making the feeling of strange sink in more as he pulled his foot up on the chair. 'perfect' he thought, 'I will be forever alone….' His train of thought interrupted by a boy dressed in black from head to toe pulling a seat up next to the little albino who just sat and twiddled his thumbs.

"Hey, kid, are you like anorexic?" the boy said cocking his head to the side "my name is Mihael…well, Mello will do. And you are?"

Nate looked up, 'someone actually speaking to me? Well….let's start off good.'

"My name is Na-Near. It's because of my social 'retardation' as I've heard people refer to it as, to be near people. You can sit, and no I'm not anorexic, I would just rather not eat the greasy, fat infested, unhealthy food that this establishment has decided to serve its students." He stared straight at the golden headed boy, wearing the blank face that has grown on him.

'I gave him too much. No more friendship opportunity.'

"oh, well, that's interesting. Okay." The tall thin figure finally seated himself, pulling a bar of chocolate from his pocket.

"However, I noticed that you also have no lunch tray. This does not mean you have an eating disorder, like you insinuated that I did?" 'why do I have to be so smart.'

"no, I just don't eat this shit. I have my chocolate until I get home, that will subdue my hunger." Mello bit hard into the chocolate. "want some?"

"No, I don't exactly care for sweets." Nate looked down at his hands. ' dumb move'

"Oh. Then what the fuck do you eat?" the albino opened his mouth to respond and the lunch bell rang. "haha that was good shit! It looked like you made that bell noise. Haha, fucking-ha. So, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye."

"please. Just stay here. I wanna play a game with you. Ill play by your rules. I promise. I just want a friend…"

Nate woke up in a cold sweat. This was the third time in the last week he's had this dream. The one where Mello, his new and only friend, leaves him, leaves him because, Nate won't play Mello's game.

"good morning best friend in my world." Mello said at first bell. He transferred into Nate's first class.
