Nyx Shalltear has never considered herself to be a philanthropist - In fact, she openly admits to being the opposite, never shying away from her somewhat selfish and dismissive nature and always serving her own interests before concerning herself with the needs of others... If she even chooses to concern herself in the first place, that is.
These priorities also extend to her reasoning for enrolling into Atlas Academy. While many of her peers seek to save the world or wipe out the creatures of Grimm, Nyx's goals are far less grandiose - she intends to employ her newfound skills and abilities in the pursuit of profit. Nothing more. As far as she's concerned, expecting to reap any further reward is both foolish and pointless.
Over the course of her journey through the Academy, Nyx will encounter new friends and new foes, many of whom will test her skewered worldview and attempt to shift her selfish perspective. Above all, however; she will discover the true burden of responsibility that a Huntress must bear.
