Who I Am

Prologue

The patter of her feet was lightning; every step of her heeled boots clanged against the floor, the metallic sound reverberating around the glinting white walls and the endless descent trapping her. Conveniently, its echo obscured her exact position from those in pursuit, offering a fleeting moment of solace as she guessed her path through the nearly hypnotising walkways to their centre, her escape.

Heavy, hasty breaths seared in her chest, a feeling that was unfamiliar to her cautiously-nurtured body. She hurriedly glanced over her shoulder beyond the billowing of her blonde hair, her terrified eyes the colour of emeralds, and noticed the men were gradually enclosing. Desperation convulsed her heart, spurring her to take the final few steps across the solacing light, despite her exhaustion, as a man finally spotted her.

"There she is!"

Stumbling to the control panel and fumbling with the buttons, barriers raised around her and the triangular elevator ascended, distancing her from the men clad in white. She stood taut and trembling for a few tense seconds, panting, fearing for the impossible chance the tenacious men could climb the scaffolding to reach her. When no such supervillain appeared, she shakily collapsed to her knees to recover.

How did a naïve act of curiosity envoke such a terrifying situation? How could she not have known? She didn't ponder those questions: she just needed to escape. Otherwise, her impulsive risk would be meaningless.

Dialga's generosity seemed to miss her as the elevator stopped in no time, forcing her to move before it descended, delivering her back to them. She patted down her white sundress and dragged herself up onto her legs made of jelly, glancing left and right to determine her location under midnight's blinding curtain.

The room was open with raised walkways weaving between sections of healthy flora and trees, and rock-lined streams beside which sleeping Pokémon lay. Illuminated by the moon's milky white glow that leaked through the glass-domed roof, she recognised the room as the facilities' sanctuary, and yet the trepidation poisoning her veins made her feel everything the opposite of safe. Neither the peaceful trickling of the streams or the harmonised tweeting by the nocturnal bird Pokémon could rest her nerves.

Traipsing through the room like it was a Fearow's nest, she decided to hide and wait out the brittle patience of those stalking her, or rather the being blinking through her unzipped bag with lambent sulphur eyes. She edged warily around a corner toward her hiding place but flinched as a ghastly hand brushed her Pokéball duffle bag, the reflexive jolt making her avoid his grasp just in time. She ran down the walkway, took a right, then a left, desperate to shake him off. When it seemed as if she'd lose him, she froze as if a Sheer Cold had hit her.

Two strangers clad in white and blue jumpsuits obstructed her route a few feet away. She gasped, recognising both the short girl with a long braid of ginger hair and the tall, sturdy boy with a curl of amethyst locks draped over his forehead. They were emissaries, from where she didn't know, but after they appeared a few weeks ago, the air around them was heavy with unease. Fearful, she backed away but flinched and squealed after colliding with another man. She spun around to see the others breathlessly advancing behind her, their smiles fanged grins.

Overwhelmed under the gravity of her fear, she collapsed to the floor, paralysed. Her body refused to move, but her mind tormented her with what would happen next. She would be captured and disciplined for her what she'd done, by methods worse than anything she'd endured. Warmth soaked her eyes, the hot tears trickling down her cheeks as her hopelessness dawned. She shut her glistening lashed eyes, waiting for the inevitable.

Suddenly, a celestial-sounding chime prompted her to open her eyes to see swirling blue energy release from the bag against her hip, engulfing her fragile frame in its shining light. The pursuers retreated, shielding their eyes. As if by magic, the mysterious energy whisked her from the ground, ascending faster than a Thunderbolt. It phased through the glass dome without making a scratch, climbing and disappearing into the night sky, leaving a glittering stream of stars behind that twinkled, soon fading into the darkness.

Hi, guys!

So, I've been planning a story like this for a long time! With the Sun and Moon series ending soon, I finally decided to write it, which may be a bit late but oh well! The idea for this story is to incorporate the events of the games and the show into one, as well as adding in some things that I feel would be interesting to explore a bit more. Essentially, it could end up being an entirely different series but with the same underlying storyline.

If you're reading, thank you for giving it a chance! Any feedback is welcome, so let me know what you think! And if you keep reading, I hope you enjoy my story!
