A/N :Hey everyone! This is just a oneshot that I wrote a while ago for school, and decided that I wanted to share it with you.

Disclaimer: I don't own the original Sleeping Beauty, and I actually do know someone that was hit by a bus and has been in a coma for years, so that part isn't completely mine either.

Sleeping Beauty

Chicago 1996

A teary-eyed family was gathered around a hospital bed. Lying lifeless in the bed was a girl, a girl whose beauty surpassed all other. After some time, a doctor came in bearing the tragic prophecy: the young woman was in a coma and there was no way of knowing when, or, more likely, if she ever would wake. The family burst into fresh tears, their sorrow rekindled, as the stunning woman slumbered on, oblivious to all.

They called her Rose, after the fairest of the flowers.

'She had been hit by a bus while crossing the street. It was a miracle she survived at all.' was the whispered gossip among the nurses. An ages old curse was in the tears of her family.

For ten years the family mourned, never living past that fateful morn. Not a day passed when the family did not visit and the flowers on her bedside were renewed. Though the years passed, her exquisite magnificence did not fade, and even the rarest and most exotic flowers were put to shame by her undying sublimity. But, never did a rose enter her presence, for the living blossom would disgrace her sleeping beauty.

Chicago 2006

"There might be a way to revive her." The words echoed in the heads of the girl's family as they gathered around her bedside as they had every day for the past ten years. This time, though, there was hope in their eyes. For ten years they had mourned for their lost daughter, but now she might return. She would not be lost again.

The family gathered around the hospital bed, hopefully for the last time, but now, with one addition. Phillip, the young doctor who had told them Rose might be saved. He waited with bated breath and shining eyes as the radiant beauty stirred. As her eyes fluttered open he drew a rose from the folds of his coat. The first rose to enter the girl's presence in ten years. A rose, whose splendor matched the girl's to perfection. And as her eyes met his, he pressed it into her hands, murmuring, "A rose for a rose, the fairest of all".
