Chapter 1
Santana Lopez sighed as she sat down on her couch, a cup of coffee in her hand and her laptop already open and ready to go. She hated doing work on Friday night, but such was the life of a lawyer. "Who am I kidding," she thought to herself "I have no plans any way." She looked around her apartment, an open floor plan, open beams and hard wood floors, not to mention the view of the city. She loved living in Seattle, but hated the fact that she felt so lonely. Hell, she had been alone for almost 4 years. She'd always received invitations to go out with her few friends on multiple occasions, she just never wanted to bother putting the effort in to getting dressed up and dealing with other people. At least, that was what the told everyone. Secretly, she always feared that she would meet someone who would try to fill the void in her heart, but she knew that there was only one blue eyed blonde who could ever belong there. "Christ sakes, Santana, get to work" she murmured to herself. She slid on her glasses and opened her inbox nothing out of the ordinary. Reading through the sender names, she came upon one that made her stop breathing, Fabray. Hesitating for only a moment, she clicked on the e-mail to open it.
Santana,
I know that it has been quite some time since I have talked to you. I tried to call but your number is out of service so I looked around and found your email through the offices of Harris, Harris and Stoud. Uhm, well I am emailing you because I'm getting married. Actually I am getting married to Rachel in July and I want you to be my maid of honor. I know that I have lost contact but please I miss you and this has been the plan since we were little, remember? You would be my maid of honor and I would be yours when you married B. That was always our plan. Anyways, if you can do it, the wedding is July 21, 2017, and you would have to be here the 14th. God, I can't believe I am getting married in two months. Sorry, sidetracked again. We have the dress we want you to wear, it just needs fitted for you. I can send it to a seamstress near you if you would like. Please, Santana, I would love to have you standing beside me.
Quinn.
Santana was shaking by the time that she finished reading the email. She had not spoken to a single member of the glee club since December 2012. She tried, several times, but they all stopped returning calls, emails or texts, and eventually she gave up trying to contact them. She hadn't even bothered to return to Lima since then. To say that it hurt was a lie. It had hurt so much, being left virtually alone in a new place. She cried a lot for the first month, but she slowly got over it. Instead of being sad, she used it as motivation to revamp her life. She graduated top of her class and got hired at one of the best firms in Seattle. She also started to work out more. She was proud that she had a perfect six-pack, well defined but not gross.
Her parents came out for Christmas 2012, but they were so distant and she couldn't figure out why. Even now, they don't really talk to her much even though she tries to call at least once a week. Her heart clenched at the thought. She closed her laptop and went to her room, opening to top drawer of her dresser and pulling out the little blue box. She flipped it open and saw a diamond rind with rubies on either side. It was the ring that should be on Brittany's finger, along with a wedding band to match. Getting lost in her memories, she fell backwards onto her bed, tears leaking down her cheeks as she looked at the ring.
