Breathe
Marco knows this breathless gasping for sanity. Marco has a clear picture of what his morph's aftermath can be like, and he's not telling anybody.
Someone else knows, anyway.
When he comes first, demorphs first, he's back into his own unimpressive body and the first thing he does is touch himself. Fingers, face, skin, and the blood rushing beneath them all, and he still isn't fully human-not yet.
Not without those always-shut eyes when Jake comes back into his own skin; not without his best friend's faintly rising shoulders, his chest falling in one tight gasp. His first sharp intake of breath, his mouth parting so slightly with open brown eyes locking into Marco, and his whole face lighting into that slow tremulous grin—
No. Marco's blood doesn't slow down.
-Not just yet.
