The day starts with the rustling of his mother in the next room.
He wakes up, sniffs at the clothes that he wore yesterday and tugs them on. They smell clean enough and he's already late for his appointment. As he heads out, he wonders if they'll be there. If he'll be there.
The day passes quickly, they discuss their lives, what they're doing, what they want to do. Time is short, and they all want to make the best of it. He makes fun of her stuffed cat as usual. The siblings shake their head at the two as she uses her cat to smack him over the head.
After being chased around, he admits defeat and is soundly thumped by the cat again. The group laughs, both in the delight of hanging out and because they're all just so grateful to be alive.
Hachiko stares down at them, solemnly observing their cheer. He pets the side of Hachiko's pedestal, silently remembering all that the statue must have seen.
It's almost 7 p.m. and the siblings wander off to go home. She promises to make him a cat similar to the one she holds before she presses a kiss against his cheek and runs off, leaving him blushing.
He stays put for another hour.
The person he was hoping would appear doesn't show up. He cranes his neck, thinks he catches a glimpse of a blue shirt but it's gone in a flash, lost in the crowd of people.
Staring down at his phone morosely, he finally leaves for home. Neku wants to thank Joshua for helping him open up his world.
On top of 104, Joshua smiles a little, a player pin clenched in his fist.
