Just a little something I wrote while listening to the song "Headlights," by The Classic Crime. My friend Jillian told me to do this. I don't own NCIS...
She had been hurt in Morocco. He had seen it. Special Agent Tony DiNozzo has seen it with his own two eyes. He had seen her on that stretcher, bleeding from the head and unaware of her surroundings. It killed Tony to be thousands of miles away from Ziva, unable to help her.
Agent DiNozzo wanted to help her but he didn't know how. He couldn't go get her from Israel. That was her homeland; it wasn't his territory. DiNozzo wanted her to come home. She needed to come back to Washington. He had to take care of her.
When Tony was at home, away from the office, the only thing that went through his mind was Ziva. No matter what he tried to do, he couldn't get her out of his mind. He couldn't let her go. DiNozzo had to have the answers, he had to make sure that she was okay, before he could let her go.
Ziva would be in Israel for awhile, that Tony knew for sure. He contemplated emailing her, to make sure that she was okay, but the senior field agent always decided against it. Chances were that Eli would see the email and then question Ziva about the relations that she had with Tony.
DiNozzo did not want Ziva to get hurt anymore than she already had. He missed her like crazy, but if she came back to Washington she would break. She was already broken as it stood, and he didn't want her to break anymore. Maybe that's why Tony was slowly letting go of Ziva as the time passed. She still wasn't back in Washington, back at NCIS. No matter how much Tony wanted her to come back, she probably wasn't going to return. Eli was most likely going to keep her at Mossad.
As the weeks passed, Tony started to move on. He cherished the memories that they had together but he really was not looking back. He needed to get over the fact that he loved her and the senior field agent had to move on. He swallowed his feelings and every time McGee brought Ziva up, Tony would ignore him.
It wasn't like Tony was going to cry when they talked about Ziva. It just hurt him so much that she wasn't going to be coming back. DiNozzo put himself on cruise control, and just went through the motions of his day. That's how he coped. That's how he dealt with the fact that she was gone.
A few months after her incident, Tony went into the office early. He didn't know why, he just wanted to get some work done before Gibbs came. When he walked into the bullpen he saw her.
She was sitting there at her desk, ruffling through the cases that she had missed. When Ziva heard him she looked up and smiled, saying, "Hello, Tony."
DiNozzo couldn't help but grin the stupidest grin. "Hey, Ziva. Welcome back," he said, moving over to his own desk, watching her out of the corner of his eye.
She was back. And now Tony could have her.
